I didn't grow up owning a dog, but I sure found ways of finding others to play with! When I was in middle school, I was a volunteer at the Helen Woodward Animal Center. In high school, I always gravitated towards friends with dogs. In the last six years, I've helped raise a friend's puppy (housebreaking, first bout with fleas, food allergies...), trained my mom's rescue pup (Cesar Milan's book helped), and have pet-sit for nearly everyone I know in Santa Barbara (often weeks and months at a time, for every size dog you can imagine!). I always thought dogs shouldn't have to be boarded if at all possible and love the opportunity to explore new places like parks, beaches and mountain trails with new canine friends. I've taken care of dogs recovering from surgery, with arthritis, thyroid problems, allergies, and simply those who take extra supplements.
