As a pet parent--one doggo and two kitties --I benefit from strengthening our bond of love and understanding through training and playtime. My dog understands the clicker training method and rewards include lots of love and reasonable treats. I have yet to teach my kittens to use a toilet~ I am able to handle large dogs; my mom's is 160lbs. I'm a very skilled ear scratcher/ belly rubber and I believe in occasional treats and an abundance of praise and affection. When my dog does something he's not supposed to, he gets grumpy and understands why he's on on timeout and is still as thrilled and loveable as ever when it's playtime again. I usually just run with my dog because of my busy schedule, but on a leisurely day a typical walk includes going to the neighborhood park and running around in the grass with or without toys with a water bottle or stops at the drinking fountain.
