Quality dog time-at your home.

Pet care experience

I think that the one main thing dog owners have noticed about me is that their dogs seem to sense that I am "safe", someone they can instinctively trust. I know that something I do (I'm not quite sure what it is) makes them feel good around me, and my experience with stay-over's has repeatedly given me the reward of leaving my doggy charges with their tails wagging! I have had different kinds of stay-over's, including two weeks of care for a couple of large dogs while their owners were on vacation, repeat one-day visits combining housecleaning with caring, feeding and walking Mitzi, a gentle black Lab mix and a two-to-three week stay with her while Dr. W. and his wife were on their honeymoon. I have also done some weekend pet watches and over the past thirteen years have cared for some pets on and off for a couple I'm really close with, including a tank-full of fish, a parrot and a wonderful female Pug named "'Bubbles". I should add that Bubbles and I became so familiar with each other over the years that she actually came to expect me as a regular guest, and usually needed a day or two to get used to my not being there. I have also, of course, enjoyed caring for pets of my own, As a kid, I had several pets including two dogs, two cats and a litter of four kittens, a tortoise and a duck. I speak three languages, English, Meowish and Bowwow. I don't speak any duck. Seriously, though, I am able to recall the first experience I had with pets of my own. We had a black and white mixed Terrier named Inky. Inky was a pup about one year old when we got him. and he needed a playmate. Around that same period of time another creature came into our home from the surrounding hills: a sweet, gentle grey tabby whom we named Pepper. Pepper was a refugee from a litter of feral kittens that we found at the animal shelter. We loved him at first sight and took him in. Little did we know it, but we had just inherited a free backyard circus! These two rascals would spend hours chasing each other, rollin' n' rasslin' and putting on a display that was better than even watching TV! It was family entertainment at its best! Over the last several years I have lived in places where pets unfortunately weren't allowed, something I hope to change one day. As compensation, I would very much enjoy giving my love and care to your dogs, and bringing my past experience to your aid, so that they are left in safe keeping in your absence. My availability is flexible though it may tighten up a bit when I go back to school this fall. My courses will be fairly light (6 units) and I would still be available some weekdays and nearly always on weekends. As of now, Wednesday is the only day that I cannot sit.

Tony was absolutely wonderful! I booked him last minute and he came over to meet my dog the same day. He also stayed in my house so my dog would be extra comfortable! My dog really liked him and I could tell he'd be really relaxed with Tony. I'm so happy I booked Tony to watch my dog. And I'd definitely book him again! Thank you, Tony!

To whom it may concern... I am a happy owner of a Shiba Inu and found myself in need of a sitter when the wife and I go to Vegas. If you know the breed, they can not be left alone for days just having them checked on. I met Tony G. Through a friend of a friend. He really came through for us in a pinch. I called him to sit for us with only two days notice and he was very accommodating. He was wonderful and attentive with our little monster. I feel I could have been taken to the cleaners by someone else, given the short notice. But Tony was great and kept it really fair. Which meant more for the tables. I hope this helps any of you who is in need of a dog sitter. It's said that a happy customer tells two people- a mad one tells 20. That just isn't right. Good luck.

I would highly recommend Tony as a dog sitter. He is excellent with animals and they, in turn, seem to be receptive to his caring approach. You will not be sorry if you use him as your pet sitter. Sincerely, Tana S.

I couldn't ask for a better person to take care of my dog when I would travel. Tony is a gentle man with animals, is very affectionate with them and most of all he is very honest and leaves your place in spic and span condition when he leaves. And I always traveled stress-free knowing that my dog, Bubbles the Pug, was in good hands. When I would go out of town Tony would stay in my apartment and take care of her. The nice thing is that I think Bubbles never minded me traveling becaus she looked forward to having Tony come and stay with her. My Bubbles passed away last year. She was a very happy dog, and lived till 18 years old. If I had to give Tony a rating from 1–10, 10 being the highest, I would give him a 500 ++. I highly recommend him. Especially if you love your dog, or any pet. ? Gary G

Why do I really love dogs? Well. right now they're missing from my life. There are regrettably no dogs permitted at the condominium I live in. I've seen no evidence of cats or any other free-moving animals in the building. The only sign of pets here is the loud screech of some exotic bird, In my last residence, the landlady kept and fed dozens of cats. Mostly all of them were feral. It has served as a reminder to me how much more open to being loved dogs really are. There are just so many more avenues of sympathetic communication with a dog. To me, they seem closer to humans than any other species, maybe sometimes even more than human. I can illustrate this with a wonderful cartoon I saw years ago where a housewife is standing at the entrance to the living room talking with a neighbor, as the husband lies crouched on the floor beside the easy chair and the dog, a Great Dane, sits in the easy chair, smoking a pipe and watching TV. The housewife is speaking to her neighbor and the caption reads: "..And then, little by little, Harry just seemed to lose control."

A typical day

The first thing I focus upon is getting an animal's trust. With dogs and cats especially, I make sure they have a chance to sniff me and pick up on my energy. I'm always amazed at people who reach out and pet an animal that doesn't yet know them, without performing this basic courtesy. The things I keep an eye on when I'm caring for a pet is first of all where that pet is at all times. Another thing I pay attention to is what that pet is putting in its mouth. This is especially important when I'm walking a dog. Dogs are likely to sample anything and not be content with just smelling it. I like to play with the pets I'm,caring for, not just keep them company. Dogs even more than cats have to be actively encouraged to play with you and once they see that you're really interested, they're all over.you. That's probably more the case with younger dogs, especially puppies. Likewise kittens. I also make a point of finding out what, when and how much to feed a pet, and whether there's any medical condition I should be aware of. It comes down to this; a dog may be man's best friend, but there's no better friend a dog can have than a sitter who really cares about that dog when you're away.
