My best friends are dogs

Pet care experience

Currently, my landlord doesn't allow dogs, so for the first time in my life, I'm sadly lacking scruffy lovable dog energy. To fill the void, I dogsit! Because Portland is Portland, my clients have included everyone from local musical royalty and their senior tone-deaf mutts to Olympic athletes and their adorably fat little bulldog puppies. I grew up with both rescue mutts and purebred designer dogs, and I totally understand taking either route to dog ownership. I have taken care of dogs that required a LOT of zoomy energy, and dogs that required a LOT of Netflix couch time. I've given dogs medicine orally and topically, and even performed daily rehabilitation exercises on numerous senior dogs, and one recovering from a medical event. I like small dogs and medium sized dogs, but I especially love giant breeds—and luckily I'm well over six feet tall and in good enough shape to handle them. I'm obsessed with dogs to the point that my friends are used to me stopping midsentence to point out a pup across the street. Honestly, one of the only trips I take every year is to New York City to go to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, just to meet breeds of dogs I've never met before. (I met an Otter Hound last year!) I haven't met your dog, but I'm 100% sure we'll be best friends.

Thomas was fantastic as usual. Had a long week and Thomas was able to make a short notice walk happen! Love his flexibility and willingness to help out. Great as usual!

Thomas is always quick to communicate and is a joy to work with. He has an easy going manner and we know that the dogs are in great hands when he takes care of them for us.

Information Thomas R. would like to know about your pet

I like to know if a dog is dog or cat reactive, or leash reactive, or if they have issues with any type of person. (I'm over six feet tall and I have long hair and a short beard, and some dogs might think I'm just a big mutt.) I love giant breeds, as well as bulldogs, pitbulls, and literally every other kind of dog.

A typical day

I try to walk a few miles a day, dog or no dog, mostly on residential streets, but also in parks or along the river. The only thing I like more than hiking is hiking with dog friends, so if it's something you're into, your dog would be welcome to join me on some adventures. I'm good at finding areas where other dogs won't bother us, though I also love a dog park. I had a professor in college who said, "I like experiencing the world at the speed at which I walk," and I've always thought it was the best way to explore.
