Pet care experience
I have always loved dogs and provided informal boarding services and puppy training for friends and family. My dogs were taken care of by a Rover sitter this past September and I was really impressed by the level of service and professionalism. Working with RoverGO is an excellent way to combine my experience with and love of dogs into a post retirement career. I understand the need to trust someone with the care of my dogs while traveling and hope to provide the same level of service to others. I recently retired, so I do not have a set schedule and am therefore home during most of the day. Although I’ll be the main caretaker, my wife assists in the care and supervision of the canine members of the household, and would offer similar assistance with any visitors. Peekaboo, a 65-pound Boxer cross is one of the canine members of the household. His name comes from the fact that he was found abandoned near Peekaboo Canyon, which is next to the Best Friends shelter in southwest Utah. Buddy is a 13-pound Silky Terrier cross, and is a rescue from Missouri. Buddy was originally named Bubba, but felt he needed a fresh start including a new name. Although I don’t have professional experience with dogs outside of Rover, I have plenty of experience providing them with love and care. On two occasions, I helped find new homes for animals when the human client was no longer able to stay in the home. I have experience volunteering for the local shelter, taking care of puppies too young for adoption or adult animals recovering from surgery. I have helped out families and friends who wanted to have a canine companion of their own, but did not have the patience for the early stages of puppy house training. I took care of and worked with the puppies for the first few weeks and then passed them back to their forever homes. With one adult Yorkie, I provided remedial training because she had developed a few bad habits. I have cared for dogs from puppies to seniors. I have medication administration experience as well as providing subcutaneous injections. The primary trait my canine and human customers will appreciate is my dedication to the care and supervision of the animals entrusted to me. I also simply enjoy being with and working with pups! I am a punctual person, and following through on appointments arranged with current or potential customers. I have spent the last 15 years working with people, helping to facilitate their access to physical and mental health services. Good customer service was paramount and the experience will readily apply to assisting my canine and human customers. The neighborhood I live in is called Como Park because it borders the large city park of the same name. The park has a zoo, and you can often hear the wolves howling on a summer night! The neighborhood is almost entirely single family homes that are well tended. There is a good sized canine population and barking conversations can be heard occasionally over the backyard fences. The house has three bedrooms, a finished basement and front and back four season porches off of the kitchen and living rooms. There is plenty of space to move around or to have separate spaces if someone happens to need some alone time. The property has a good sized fenced backyard for play time and taking care of business.
Reviews
Tom is great with our two dogs. Lots of updates and pictures to let us know how they're doing. We really appreciated the open communication and it made my family feel so much better about leaving the dogs while on vacation. We will most definitely use Tom again!
Very dependable. Keeps us informed about our dog. Rex really likes going to Tom’s.
Tom always does a great job with our dog. He communicates well and sends daily updates. She is always excited to see him on her next visit.
Tom provided a great home-away-from-home for Duffy. We would definitely call on him next time we are out of town.

Information Tom H. would like to know about your pet
Some things I like to learn ahead of time: - Would you like to schedule a meet-and-greet before the stay? - What’s your preferred method of communication? - Does your pup have any health issues that need to be tended to? For instance, dietary restrictions, medicine, or behavior triggers? - Does your pup like to stick to a given schedule, like regular walks in the morning and evening? - What does your pup do well around? What does your pup try to avoid? - What’s the best way to spoil your pup?
A typical day
Activities would include: Walks in the neighborhood and the nearby main city park; playing fetch in the backyard; supervised romping with the other dogs; hanging out in the evening with both the canine and human members of the household. My primary hobby during the summer is bike riding. Two of my former canine companions enjoyed this activity as well, learning to ride in flexible sided kennel attached to the bike rack. During the winter I usually spend time each day at the YMCA. I am involved in volunteer activities such as the current mayoral election. The other main hobby is listening to audiobooks. This is a very flexible hobby since it can be combined with other activities such as long walks with the dogs, exercising at the YMCA, bike riding, household chores, etc.
