Animal-Lover in Old Town

Pet care experience

I am an avid dog and animal lover who would love to spend some time with your pet! I have been a dog owner for most of my life, and have been pet sitting through Rover for over 3 years. After moving to Colorado for school I had to leave my family pets behind, and since I do not have a pet of my own I began pet-sitting! I have experience with many types of dogs, ranging from German Shorthairs to Bullmastiffs. I just love spending time playing with any pup! In addition to my love of animals, I am compassionate, reliable, and trustworthy. My pet sitting style: I think it is critical to cater to each animal and their comfort level. If your pet is shy or anxious, that is okay! I want them to take their time to warm up to me and will do everything I can to make them feel safe and loved. I have many clients who have some anxieties or quirks, whether it is a dislike of skateboards, food or dog aggression, resource guarding, or being terrified of paper. I am willing to go above and beyond to make sure their needs are met. I am also able to administer medication as needed. Many dogs are upset when their owners leave- this is normal. To make them feel better, I often take my clients on long walks to distract them from being in the house without their people. They get lots of love and snuggles in the first 24 hours, and every day after that! You can also expect me to adhere to the schedule that you keep for your pup. In my house, pups are free to explore as they please, as I have it reasonably "puppy-proofed". If they are allowed on the furniture at home, they are free to be on the couches and beds here too. Also, I live with my Boyfriend of seven years who is often home and is happy give the pups love, so they have near constant companions. A few last minute notes: **Please note that I work a part-time job Thursday, Friday and Sunday evenings, but my boyfriend and I have differing works schedules, which allows me to ensure that your dog will never be left alone for more than an hour or so during their stay. References are available upon request.**

My dog Sadie had a great time staying with Therese! She loved being walked and playing fetch. Therese was reliable, flexible and very attentive. I definitely recommend her services!

Therese took amazing care of my old dog with special needs. My dog has since passed away, and I am glad Therese was able to provide her with good care and companionship when I had to leave. I would definitely book Therese again in the future.

Therese was great! She was able to schedule a last minute meet-and-greet just so my dog Tenaya had the chance to see where she was going to be staying for the weekend. She was very prompt in her responses which I appreciated. While we were away, we received many cute photos of our girl and in each one she looked very happy. Tenaya sometimes has fear based dog aggression while leashed, so I appreciated that Therese didn't have other dogs in the home (its hit or miss - some dogs our dog adores and others she can't stand). It gave me peace of mind that Therese had watched other dogs with leash aggression so she was aware while on walks and prepared to cross to the other side of the road to keep Tenaya calm and happy. When we picked Tenaya up, she was happy to see us but also completely relaxed and seemed to have enjoyed her stay. You can tell Therese is a total dog person - she took great care of my snuggly velcro girl! We will definitely be booking with Therese the next time we travel and can't bring Tenaya.

Our Orca lives Therese. Our puppy is so well cared for when we are out of town we don't worry at all. It is so evident that Therese loves animals. She is more patient with our little dog than I am!!! This is second time Therese has helped us out and I am sure we will contact again when we need care for our doggie!! Thanks Therese!

Information Therese J. would like to know about your pet

I would love to know any little quirks about your pet that you want to share! I truly love all dogs, and I am very patient with them, but also very confident and unafraid. I don't have any real breed preferences. I am a firm believer that I can handle almost any dog issue as long as I am prepared for it! I would also prefer dogs who are housetrained (with the exception of puppies or very young dogs that are still being trained, which I am also comfortable with). I would also like to know if your dog is afraid of or aggressive toward other dogs or animals so that I know to avoid them on walks and such! The only items I ask for owners to provide during a stay are food, a favorite toy/blanket, and a crate if that is what your dog is accustomed to. I can provide food bowls, leashes, toys, pee pads (for puppies), dog bags, and treats. Also, If your dog has any dietary restrictions or incontinence issues, please let me know before their stay!

A typical day

I live in a residential neighborhood near Old Town, which is where I plan to walk and exercise the dogs under my care. I generally provide 2-4 walks daily (not including potty breaks), depending on the dog's usual exercise regimen and energy level. If your dog is sensitive to cold weather, please let me know, and I will be sure to take precautions to keep them warm on our walks (doggie sweaters, booties, etc.) I also have several toys, nylabones and tennis balls for indoor mental/physical stimulation. One more thing I would like to note is that I only host one dog (or dogs from the same family) at any given time. I do this to avoid any possible incidents between unfamiliar dogs, and because I want to keep your fur-kids as safe as possible. I also enjoy getting to bond with my dog clients individually, and they always seem to appreciate the attention!
