UVA Grad, clean home, LOVE animals!

Pet care experience

My husband and I are both UVA graduates and parents of 3 kind teenagers, who are also animal lovers like us. We own a clean home in downtown Charlottesville in a lovely neighborhood, we are non-smokers, and have fostered and cared for over 70 fur-babies for the SPCA over the years. Our family adores caring for animals and doing anything we can to keep them as happy and comfortable as possible. Whether it's cooking food for the fur babies, wiping or washing them to keep them fresh and comfortable, or cuddling with them in front of the fire, we make sure that they are always smiling! Additionally: - We treat chapped noses/paws with beeswax balm - Brush teeth - Carefully and safely administer medications - Carefully monitor hydration, fiber, bowel and urinary health - Ease sore/inflamed joints with ice-packs or heated blankets - Carry elderly pups up and down stairs to avoid injury - Ensure that pups are never alone

Tara and her family were fantastic. From the initial contact to making the booking, to drop off and pick up, everything was smooth, very friendly and professional. It is clear that Tara and her family love dogs, and that they are very knowledgeable. I had no issue leaving my senior dog, who requires special care, in their caring and capable hands. I highly recommend Tara and would board my dog with her again!

I was gone for a total of 14 days to go see my fiancée. During those days the sitter took it upon herself to experiment with my dogs diet because he was showing little interest in the food I provided. There was no to little attempt to ask me if I approved of this. There was only messages like “ I gave your dog this and I hope it’s ok”. When I stated my preferences I was challenged by do we really have to type responses based and it is somehow inconvenient for them to take my dogs harness off. And in regards to the food when she asked if feeding bacon to my dog was ok AFTER she did it.. I said no it’s not because it’s bad for dogs. She decided to give me a passive aggressive lecture about how feeding just kibble is also unhealthy. To avoid confrontation and lack of options I decided not to continue to confront her. I was aware of the need to improve my dogs diet before the trip and was going to do so when I returned! Now I am having to walk him around outside to relieve his constant diarrhea. I will be making a trip to confirm that he has colitis or something similar. Remember the customer is always right when providing a service for them!!!

Tara was wonderful! I knew from the meet and greet that Sage would be very happy spending time with Tara and her husband. Tara is very knowledgeable and shared helpful advice with me on Sage's medical issues. She was very attentive to all of Sage's needs and took loving care of him, including giving him an impromptu bath after he played in the mud. Sage will love to visit again!

Information Tara I. would like to know about your pet

Please bring as many comforts of home for your fur-baby, including food and water bowls, beds and sleep-time things, blankets, stuffed toys, chew toys, leash, harness, sweaters (in cold weather) medications, etc.

A typical day

At our home, we work hard to ensure that pets are never left alone. Walks are on a 2-3 hour schedule, as well as being the first activity of the morning and last activity before bedtime. We have a beautiful, safe neighborhood that is quiet and conducive to dog-walking. We also have access to a nature trail for dogs who's parents are comfortable with nature walks. Our family works hard to make sure our fur friends are comfortable, clean and happy: the thermostat is a adjusted for dogs based on their needs, cuddles and playtime are frequent here in a house with children, and we bathe and rinse fur-babies as much as needed to keep them clean, cool and comfortable at all times. Dogs usually sleep in bed with us depending on their comfort-level and house-training status.
