Pet care experience
I’m very passionate about the pets I care for. Every one is treated as if it was my own. I’ve had experience working with many different types of dogs, from tiny Malteses to energetic Australian Shepherds. And by being an animal science student at SDSU, I’ve had experience caring for many different kinds of animals, from cattle to pigs to horses. Understanding the importance of livestock care has also helped me apply that in my care for companion animals, including dogs and cats alike.

I have mainly cared for pets at a clients home, so I will follow any directions regarding the pet’s diet or exercise routine. I make it a priority to walk them at least once or twice a day depending on how long they require my services, and have one on one play time to establish trust and companionship.

A typical day
When it come to the dogs in my care, my main priority is for them to receive proper physical and mental stimulation. I like to play games with them, and because I live so close to campus and Hillcrest Park, there are many opportunities for outdoor activities and walks.

Availability
I am currently an intern at Special Training and Riding Skills (STARS), which is a therapeutic horse facility that helps people with disabilities in Brookings. I am usually called to work late afternoons to evenings on Tuesday and Thursday each week, so I am fairly flexible when it comes to pet care. Also, as a student at SDSU, I made time to care for a friends’ pet when she travelled, so I have an understanding of how to fit pet care into my daily schedule.
