Pet care experience
Hi 👋 I’m Susan, and occasionally you will see my husband Connor on my page as well! He is not the primary sitter, but he supports my decision as a dog sitter, and you’ll see him out and about. I have taken care of dogs and cats my entire life, with babysitting and dog walking for personal enjoyment. I have raised my own dog and completed offleash training with him. I am very attentive to dogs and cats needs and can provide medication administration, first aid, CPR, and urgent transportation to the nearest emergency vet. I will be very attentive to your dogs needs because I am a nurse myself! My ideal day is to take your dog on a walk through the woods or park, bathe/clean as necessary and check for ticks, and come home for snuggles and toy play.
Reviews
Susan is a wonderful communicator and we loved all the photos she shared during two days of doggy daycare! She was very attentive and took great care of our Cash! Highly recommend anyone who is looking for a great dog caregiver in the Portland area because she goes above and beyond. Her and her dog Blue are great caregivers!
Susan is the best! She takes great care of our dog.
We feel so lucky to have had Susan and her husband watch our dog in their home this weekend! She was SO lovely to meet, her yard was perfect for Moose and her dog was so sweet! She sent us so many amazing pictures of Moose throughout his stay with them! He got lots of play time and lots of cuddles. Moose came home exhausted!! We are so thankful for Susan!! ?
I was in town for a show and was looking for someone to look after Kieran. Susan was the perfect match. Kieran is a nervous pup, but he took to Susan immediately! Her dog Blue is a big sweetie and he and Kieran got along right away—did a quick greeting and then we’re off running around the yard. Susan has a nice big yard with a sturdy fence and she very thoughtfully walked me all around and showed me around her place, making sure I was comfortable leaving Kieran with her. She was so responsive and kind—she was understanding when I was running a bit late and she would send me updates as well. When I came to pick up Kieran, it was clear he’d had an amazing time with Blue and Susan—getting plenty of time outside and then some relaxing play inside too. I really appreciated Susan’s detailed summary of the day. I totally recommend booking with Susan and look forward to seeing her and Blue soon!

I have a fenced in yard with a porch, a looped neighborhood with plenty of dog friends that I know very well. In my home I have our labradoodle Blue who gets along with every dog he meets, he is so excited to meet new friends and have a friend who likes to play. He does have good social skills to know when a dog would like to be left alone. He also lives in a home with two cats who have basement door access that is not accessible to dogs. They typically do not come out with any strangers that enter the home because they are shy 🙈. Doors have little hooks to allow cats to move freely around the house. House has been generously puppy proofed and there are no soft fluffy toys in the house due to easy ingestion, but plenty of other balls and tug toys. Animals are all allowed on the furniture and there is a dog bed. Crating is also possible as there is always one available.

Information Susan L. would like to know about your pet
Your dogs health and safety is very important to me. Please feel free to share any specific dietary, medication or behavioral needs. I am very understanding that dogs and cats come from all walks of life and different backgrounds. Ultimately they deserve loving care no matter what. My aim is to keep you in the loop and to trust you know your pet more than I do. Any tips/tricks will be well honored and appreciated. For clients looking to board their dog with me it would be helpful if you provide feeding schedule, their walk schedule, where your dog typically sleeps at night, how they indicate they want to go outside to pee. I’d also like dog food, extra just in case, dog bowls, leash/collar, bedding or appropriate toys. This will make your dog feel more at home.
A typical day
Our ideal day is going to one of our many favorite walks in Evergreen Cemetery, Sebago to Sea trails, Back Cove, Fore River trail, Eastern Promenade, Riverton trolley park and golf course. My favorite dog park is Quarry Run because I am often a regular and know the dogs there, but I do enjoy the trails around the park which have less dogs if that’s your dogs preference. We walk in rain, snow or sunshine equipped with jackets, water, treats and towels. Sometimes I take my dog Blue to get pup cups at Starbucks, especially if he’s been a good boy.

I’m currently working 4-days a week with one day off. My weekends and occasional holidays are available. My scheduled work days change every week so there is not a consistent day that I may be available, I will list these per month. On those off days I would be completely attentive to your dog or cats needs. I apologize for not being able to offer a more routine schedule.
