Pet care experience
Hi! My name is Susan and I am a former elementary school teacher and married mom of two adult daughters. I have been a pet owner since the age of 7, starting with my guinea pigs and rabbits. I grew up with Irish Setters. I have consistently owned dogs and cats and currently own a dog, cat and rabbit. I have hatched chickens, ducks and peacocks. My younger daughter had hamsters, hermit crabs and 4 rats. She is working at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) this summer and attends college in California. I also took care of goats for a week. I am comfortable with all kinds of animals. I have worked with two animal care companies in the past, while also teaching school (when I lived in other states) and my first job was to take care of a frog and a chinchilla. I can take care of anything! I have had super big dogs and little dogs...Weimaraners, Border Collies, Newfoundlands, etc. I have had to carry an older dog down to the yard to play because he couldn't navigate the stairs. I am NOT scared of large dogs at all but they need to be socialized to accept me coming into their home. I will give off an assertive, positive energy, but some animals do better when they go to a sitter's home-so the territory is different for them and they won't be as protective. I am able to pill a cat or give your animal medicine. I have had to rush a cat to the vet for help because he was not well. I go above and beyond. I look forward to hearing from you! I am home most days and very flexible. I will show up on time and take care of all the little things that you want me to...plus I look out for packages, mail, indoor/outdoor lights, etc. I am aware of detail and double check locked doors, etc. to make sure that everything runs smoothly. I have notified an owner before because someone (a friend) had come into their home to check on the animals, but I hadn't been told. Things were slightly different. I notice. I will let you know. I am a mom and animal lover. I pay attention to small things and will communicate with you frequently to let you know if I have questions or observations on your pets/home just to make sure everything is perfect when you return home!

Susan checked in our two cats for a week while we were away; she was absolutely amazing, and made our trip so enjoyable knowing our cats were well taken care of. Susan sent multiple pictures and updates everyday (and even ensured she snapped shots of our shy kitty who likes to hide). She was very timely in her responses and we couldn’t have asked for a better pet sitter; she went above and beyond - I highly recommend Susan.

I follow your rules and routines...I try to ask as many questions as needed and hopefully, with my experience, I can account for things which might happen-like asking for a key even though the house uses the door code. Power goes out! It happens! I am aware of things that seem "off" when you are away. Cats especially need to be known how to be "read". I have had cats for 24 years. I know their personalities and am aware of litter box habits, etc. and will give you feedback if I think something's not right with them. Dogs are easier to read and I love them too! But cats tend to train their owners. I keep things exactly as you ask because you don't want to change routines on a cat! I will have a list of questions which I find helpful, but if you walk me thru the routine on our meet & greet I can just take notes. The vet information and cat carrier boxes, leashes for a dog in an emergency I would need to know. I have used a mobile dog groomer whom I love and trust 100%. I will be happy to reach out to her if you would like your dog (under 50 pounds) groomed. She also grooms cats!
A typical day
I follow your lead on the activities your dogs or cats (or ANY animal) like to do! If I see throw toys, I throw them! I give lots of head scratches IF your animal is receptive to them. I LOVE when an animal who was hesitant to me at first comes to love me. I LOVE that. I like to earn their love and trust. For DOG WALKING, please read. I prefer to play with dogs in the back yard...throwing balls, brushing them and loving them. I won't be scrolling on my phone walking a dog around the neighborhood. I will be INTERACTING with your dog(s) with playtime. If you have a super high energy/large dog, book the additional 30 min so I can play extra with them or take them on a walk to get out excess energy. I do walk dogs!
