My experience was different than most others. The initial contact was great. I was an hour and a half late dropping my dog off due to my son’s asthma attack and contacted her periodically and she was responsive, empathetic and gracious. When I got there she was outside. This is the first time I wasn’t invited inside the house of my dog sitter. She actually stayed on the porch and took my dogs belongings and didn’t move towards the inside until I left. I told her I was not aware she had other dogs and she said this is what she does for a living. I told her my dog has never stayed with other dogs and he is not comfortable with them and she explained to me that she knew what she was doing and my dog would be just fine. She has been doing this for years she stated. I decided to leave my dog even with doubts because she appeared very confident but more because of the numerous positive reviews. We left, I texted her 2 hours later no response. I texted her 2 more times and she finally responds that he is doing okay. Day one I got one picture with him behind another dog after trying all day to get an update. He looked okay especially to have little interaction with other dogs however I was extremely frustrated with the lack of communication. Day 2 same experience however she sent me 2 pictures with low communication. Neither picture showed my dog being walked. Both pictures showed my dog laying on his bed and he looked miserable. I showed my husband and we ended our vacation early to pick our dog up. I notified her the next morning that we would be there in 2 hours. She asked me to call her and when I did she told me there was a storm the night before and now my dog now has diarrhea. Not sure why a storm would cause diarrhea but I didn’t question her any further. She also told me she wasn’t going to have time to bathe him with a 2 hour notice but she offered a pad for him to sit on due to his diarrhea. When we arrived she again had all of his stuff on the porch. I was not invited in the house and dogs were barking inside. My dog was filled with grass in his tale and all over him. He wouldn’t eat and had diarrhea really bad. It took me 2 hours to clean him up. We took him to the vet this next morning after he pooped all over our house. Our dog is now taking medicine 3 times a day for 7 days with a follow up appointment and labs. Additionally, He will barely eat. I don’t know what all happened there but my dog has not been the same. My confidence in her was the result of strong positive reviews, However moving forward I will trust my instincts. My goal is not to hurt her business but to ensure your dog is not put in a similar situation. I’m still very upset as I watch my dog suffer.
