In addition to owning both pure bred and rescue dogs myself for the past 30 years, I have worked closely with a local rescue organization to foster and train dogs and do well with dogs that have fear or reactivity issues. For fosters, once immediate physical needs are met with consistent food, care and a comfortable space, I start to engage a dogs mental and physical stimulation by training and building confidence to improve the chances they can go to a forever home. Usually the more time a dog spends with me, the more likely it will be adopted because its better adjusted and confident, more fun and just easier to live with. Dogs are an absolute passion - and best friends! My oldest daughter became attached to my dog and somehow wound up at her house, so I do not have a dog with me permanently. So that allows me to take dogs that may not get along with other animals - unless there are special circumstances I only take one at a time. But no matter the day, its rare to see me without a dog for whatever reason, fostering, dog sitting, training. Call it a healthy obsession! I have a large fenced back yard in a quiet neighborhood and have crates, multiple dog beds and dog toys. The deck and the back yard is a great place to hang out with the dogs, but I live next to a walking path that leads to a huge park with a pond a block away and I often hit the park, play fetch or explore the sledding hill - dogs are a great human exercise! Depending on the dog, I may use a 10, 25 or 100 foot lead to or work with a dog on my treadmill if its bad weather. I often setup video cameras to monitor behavior and ensure dogs can settle down and aren't getting too anxious. Each dog is different and while some need lots of love, some need activity, some just need a comfortable space. So whether your dog needs to get out lots of energy or wants to be a couch potato, I can accommodate! And I would love to know your dogs personality. I'm a computer consultant working from home and I have plenty of time available to play with and/or train your dog. Its my own company so I am very flexible as needed. Frankly dogs get first priority, because they are just more fun. :) Dogs love to rest in the shade of some beautiful large trees and I keep a leash on in the yard until I know a dogs' personality. Never had to use it, but each dog gets a small tracker on their collar in case the worst happens and they somehow escape.
