I just moved to the Monterey area and love all the hiking and trails here! As an active runner training for a half marathon, I would love to have a companion on my runs and hikes. Your dog would have a lot of time outdoors, with walks, runs, and hikes, depending on what is appropriate. I have always had pets and am sad that I live in an apartment that doesn’t allow them. I would share all the love for any pets I would have with your fur children. I have experience as a positive reinforcement trainer and will respect your training wishes and needs while sitting. I also have experience caring for sick animals and animals that have come out of surgery. Here is an overview of my experience: • Two years at the Georgia Aquarium’s husbandry department, working alongside the animals trainers there to care for sea otters, penguins, and beluga whales. I learned a lot about positive reinforcement training from them, as well as patience in cleaning up after animals. • One year volunteering with the Newnan Humane Society fostering kittens before they became ready for adoption. I got experience administering oral medications, weighing kittens, and taking care of them after surgery. • One year as a dog trainer leading basic obedience and puppy kindergarten classes. We taught basic obedience commands such as sit, stay, down, come, and leave it. We taught some of the same commands in puppy class, but we focused on the socialization of the puppies. • One year with Hill’s Science Diet as a Pet Nutritional Consultant. The position taught me a lot about animal (both cat and dog!) nutrition and the different diets available to both species, including prescribed diets. • 20+ years raising cats, including a diabetic cat and cats with kidney failure. I gained experience administering oral medications, insulin injections, and special diets. As a college student, I can be really flexible with my schedule. I can also perform other duties like watering the plants, opening blinds, picking up mail, etc. I want your time away from home to be as stress free as possible and can be flexible with requests.
