I had to use Stephani as a new sitter for a last minute trip out of town. My husband had to work double shifts, so I needed to find someone to care for her since he wouldn't be home. I chose Stephani from the other sitters on Rover because of her vet tech training. There wasn't time for a meet and greet, but we communicated through Rover messaging for a couple of days prior to the visit and both felt comfortable that it would be a good match. We agreed to a dropoff window of 8-8:30 pm. That afternoon, she messaged that she might already be asleep by then. Her husband handled the drop off and he was very sweet. I was surprised that Stephani didn't wait up until 8:00 since I booked with her, but I didn't really have any other options at that point, so I got my dog's things set up and had to leave her. I noticed a strong scent of cigarette smoke in the home, even though Stephani's profile mentions a non-smoking home. The next two days, I received messages and pictures through Rover, many of them coming from her husband. On the last day, I had a flight cancellation, which couldn't be helped. I communicated that I was working on getting home as soon as possible. We started getting messages that made me uncomfortable, that we needed to find someone else to come pick her up, or my husband should leave work 8 hours early to come pick up Lucy. I promised to do whatever I could because Stephani's husband had to leave for work at 4, and she was already at work. I told them if I couldn't get there, he could put Lucy in the crate, and one of us could pick her up later in the day. They kept telling us they weren't comfortable with leaving her in the crate for 8 hours. But, it wouldn't have been that long. I ended up having to pay a neighborhood dog walker to go and pick up our dog, and take her to my house. These are the things that have me concerned: -Stephani's profile stated that she would only be gone a few hours per day to run errands. The reason I selected her was that she was a Vet Tech, and would be home with Lucy most of the time, in case there were any issues. It seems like she was at work most of the time, and her husband was providing a lot of the care. -We are nonsmokers and would never book in a smoking home. I definitely smelled it when I dropped off Lucy. -Most importantly, I booked with Stephani, and expected to meet her and do a little orientation time. I was shocked when she said that she would be asleep at the agreed upon time. Her husband was very nice, but drop off took about 2 minutes and Lucy didn't have a chance to get comfortable so she acted out of character and cried a lot that first night. Even when the hired pick-up person came to get her, Stephani wasn't there. I booked and paid for Stephani, who has training with animals, and I NEVER even got to meet her.
