Experienced, Loving Pet Carer
Pet care experience
As a volunteer at the Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center for many years, I had the opportunity to participate in many different trainings related to pet care and work with pets of many different temperaments and training levels. Having a degree in psychology, I am excellent at rooting out behavior issues and resolving them with the help of the pet parents. As a life-long pet parent myself, I understand the importance of your furry friend in your life, and I will do all I can to ensure their safety, comfort, and happiness.
Reviews
Silas was so great with my cat Coraline! I told him that I was worried about leaving her for the first time and he was very understanding. He set my mind at ease with picture updates of my sweet girl! I could not recommend him more as a pet sitter
Silas is a caring, loving, responsible person. He has two cats of his own. As a teenager he volunteered at the animal shelter, walking dogs, and petting cats. Silas is a student at the University of Boise enrolled in the on line masters program. You couldn't find a better person to care for your pets.
Silas always takes fantastic care of our pets! He's reliable, responsible, and our gentle giant of a dog and grumpy old lady of a cat both love him and have so much fun when he cares for them. I can't recommend him enough!
Silas has provided care for my cats in multiple occasions. He ensures to come over and spend time not just to feed them and clean their space but to take the time to offer play time or even just a lap to curl up in. He would send pictures of my cats to me while I was away after asking if it was appropriate. Having him there to look after my cats while I was away put my mind at ease as I knew they were in excellent care.

Safety, trust & environment
Specific instructions from pet parents are always followed, except in the rare event that it would be unsafe to do so, in which case I contact the pet parents immediately. For walks, I always ensure the dog(s) have access to clean water before and after; I check the leash and collars for damage, and ensure I have poop bags with me; walking routes are chosen to reduce interaction with traffic; other dogs are given a wide berth. For in-home care, dogs will be taken outside every 2-4 hours; their enclosures will be checked for damage or openings prior to being let out; feeding instructions will be followed closely; animals will receive pets and brushes and may even learn a new trick. For overnights, pets will be allowed to sleep in bed with me if they are accustomed to sleeping with a human.
Information Silas H. would like to know about your pet
I ask that pet parents write down their pets’ needs in detail, including: -feeding routines and food brands -walking and bathroom schedules -sleep habits -command words/motions -health concerns -behavioral concerns -your pet’s unique behavioral cues (example: my cat tapping me with his paw means he wants pets, but meowing means it’s dinner time) -veterinarian office contacts in case of emergency -anything else you feel I should know
A typical day
Your dog(s) and I will go for walks, play fetch and/or tug-of-war, and learn new tricks. If approved by the pet parents, I may take your dog(s) to a dog park once the dog(s) and I have gotten to know each other and trust has been established. Treats will be given if approved by pet parents, and lots of snuggles and brushes will be had.
