Hi there! My name is Shayna and I am a second year vet student at UC Davis. I've been around dogs my entire life and I have experience with a wide variety of dogs, from puppies to seniors, small to large, rescues, purebreds, and everything in between! When your pets stay with me, I treat them like my own, and I try to cater my care for the specific needs of you, and your dog. I've also had experience with dogs in a veterinary clinic for 4 years and an animal shelter for 5 years. I have a passion for providing love and great care for your dog. I can't wait to hear from you and meet both you and your dog! Note: Due to the nature of being a veterinary student, my schedule is very variable and can sometimes have long days, so please contact me as far in advance as possible so we can arrange something. I do ask that your pup is crate trained, or trustworthy being left home alone. If your dog is crate trained, or trustworthy alone, the longest they will be home alone is two-three hours when I’m in class. Again, please contact me as far in advance as possible so we can figure out arrangements!

I cannot say enough good things about Shayna! I recently moved to CA from NC and needed someone to watch my dog, Lucy, for a night who has never been boarded and never stayed with someone she does not know. Shayna went above and beyond to make sure that Lucy's stay was great. She sent pictures and updates of how Lucy was doing and worked with me when I got held up in traffic and arrived later than planned to pick her up. If I ever need someone to watch Lucy again I would not hesitate to use Shayna!
I tell you what, this girl is super patient and friendly! This was a first time for me, having someone sit the home while I was away. I think I went overboard with locked doors and outdoor cameras, but Shayna took it like a champ! She kept me updated throughout the trip and did a bunch of activities with Onyx. She cleaned up after herself, down to washing the sheets! I said it the whole time to her, she is awesome.

I like to know basic information about your dog - likes, triggers, food allergies, and if your dog gets along with other dogs. I have a small pup who is very calm and dog friendly, so I would require a meet and greet to ensure our pups get along. I also would love to know about your dog's normal routine - staying in a new place with a new person can be stressful, so I try to keep a structured routine for the dog, and I always find it helps to keep their schedule consistent. I currently live in an apartment with three dog-loving housemates, but because of the small space, I do ask that your dog not be an excessive barker. I'm looking forward to learning more about you and your pup!
A typical day
When your dog stays with me, I want to provide them with a stimulating experience so they stay happy and tired! I live near the UC Davis campus, and if your dog likes to go for adventures, I love taking them on campus to walk around the Quad - there is always something going on and it's fun for both of us to explore. I also live near plenty of trails and the Green Belt in Davis, so I can provide several daily walks, as well as trips to dog parks (if your dog would enjoy that). My top priority is to keep your dog safe, so I cater any trip and exercise to the dog's personality and experience.
