Animal Lover Seeks Animals to Love!

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Shay and I'm a postgraduate student at Edinburgh Napier, with at least 2 decades worth of experience loving and caring for a wide variety of animals! I have experience with critters from insects, to snakes, lizards, rodents, cats, dogs, goats, donkeys, horses, and even some zoo animals! I have interned at a major metropolitan zoo in animal care and client outreach, managed a small petting zoo/equestrian department, worked in stables, and much more! My passion is in conservation and stewardship of the creatures we share the world with, including our pets. I also have a background in reinforcement training, enrichment development, and diet prep from strict herbivores to carnivores. I promise to give your fur baby (or scaly baby) all care and attention of a professional animal lover.

I really appreciate Shayna and her services. My dogs were so happy to have her check on them. She did a great job communicating with me. I plan to book her again in the future!

Shayna gave my cat the care and attention to see her through some lonely days by herself. Lots of updates provided. Happy with the whole experience.

Safety, trust & environment

In any sort of stressful situation, I find it really helps to mitigate any behavioral anxiety if the animal’s own routines are maintained as closely as possible to when you’re home. That being said, I would always recommend keeping your critter at home and having me come to them, to make them feel as comfortable and safe as possible. I am more than happy to take them out on excursions/walks around a local park, but being able for them to be in their own home with their own toys allows them to feel much more confident even while you’re far away.

Information Shayna D. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog or cat has any known medical needs, behavioral triggers, sources of anxiety, or no touch spots. For example, some dogs HATE having their feet touched and will react strongly while others just don’t care. This is important to know for instances of any potential injury or issue so I don’t make the issue worse. Also, if your dog has known medical problems, please make sure to leave me your vets information in case of emergency where I can’t reach you.

A typical day

Any activities that we do will be totally up to you as the pet parent. I am more than happy to take them out to explore, go for a walk, play in the backyard, or do a stimulating game of find the treat, but ultimately I want you to feel comfortable with whoever is taking care of your baby!
