Outdoorsy House Sitter, Dog Sitter

Pet care experience

Cared for my roommate's dog for 6 years (husky with a sweet disposition). Also, cared for my toy-cockapoo for 9 years, although she is now in doggie heaven. And cared for a foster dog Sherman (12lbs of terrier fun ;) for 1.5 years. I rehabilitated him from a neglectful home (the 1st 4 yrs of life) and cared for him long-term as older dogs dont get adopted very often. He was adopted May 2019. I have an especially strong leadership role with most dogs agreeing to follow my lead, enthusiastically. I also have a tendency to calm down a high energy dog (not all, of course :) and am great with powerful breeds. I like to keep dogs in a relaxed state for the most part, and avoid letting them go over thresh-hold and train with positive reinforcement. I also love to take care of the little details to provide the most comfort - making fresh treats, putting on all the booties and jackets, or playing silly games for the feisty puppies. I take only dogs under 20 lbs. Light training is available on walks, and let me know if group walks are okay. Your dog will have a great time! Note: I don’t have pet allowance at my current residence, I'm only available for dog sitting when it includes house sitting.

Sharon is so good with our dog. We’re very comfortable with everything in this nice, quiet space and recommend her to anyone.

Sharon gave our dogs so much love and also made sure they got plenty of outdoor activity. Our home was just as we left it as well.

Shannon was very sweet with my Maizey! She made sure she had good food to eat when Maizey was not feeling like eating and she was very flexible with pick up and drop off. I was happy knowing that Maizey was taken good care of!

Sharon was a very nice sitter for our dog, Angie. She kept us informed on how Angie was doing, sending photos and updates. We had peace of mind and could relax on our trip. Thank you Sharon!

I am only open for house sitting bookings (I am not taking dogs currently for boarding in my own home.) I love to walk and be outside. I fostered dogs for the 4+ years, so am experienced with booties/rain jackets etc. - all weather gear for the little dogs. And have a lot of practice teaching dogs to walk on leash, enjoy the outdoors, and increase their confidence levels.

Information Sharon P. would like to know about your pet

Please note, I do not watch dogs over 18-20 lbs, typically. Some exceptions, but generally little dogs are my preference. Senior or mellow larger dogs sometimes work. Also, dogs remain on leash for the duration of all walks (unless in a fenced area, no exceptions).

A typical day

I will take your dog on epic hikes (if they are into that), or short scenic walks in local parks and by the river. We can go slow and steady, for senior dogs. And will play games and jog for more active dogs. I like to walk dogs in the morning for 30 minutes, and again after work for 30 minutes or more. With potty breaks if they are needed, or just to smell the roses. Duration is customized to each dog.

Availability

I’m currently working from 10-7 pm on 4 days a week (various week and weekend days), so I love a good reason to get outside and walk with dogs. (I don’t have a dog). However, this is 9 hours away each workday - so I won’t be able to give dogs midday breaks (5 days a week). I am available, unless marked away on calendar. Note: I live in SE and work in NE so bookings in these areas are preferred.
