Pet care experience
I am super flexible and comfortable with dog care. I currently have an energetic young german shepherd so I understand the importance of dogs getting lots of exercise so that they can relax throughout the day. The main breeds I have experience with are Labs/Retrievers, German Shepherds, Beagles, Mixed Breed herding dogs, and Horses! I understand when dogs want to play and when they need their own space to relax.

Sarah Jane did a great job. She was easy to work with and our dogs loved her.

Sara Jane did a great job keeping our cat company and fed/watered! Super communicative and easy going!
I highly recommend SJ as a pet sitter or dog walker! She has past annd current experience with both small pets and large animals, and her natural patience and passion for animals truly shine through when you watch her work with them. She provides the kind of calm, confident guidance that animals respond to and feel safe with. She’s also incredibly respectful of and attentive towards your instructions and your animal’s specific needs. Your pets will be in the most caring and capable hands!
If you are looking for someone in the area who will love your pet like her own, Sarah Jane is your person! I have seen firsthand how gentle, patient, and thoughtful she is. Not just with her own cute (and very energetic!) German Shepherd, Annie, but with every animal she meets. She is the kind of person who does her research. I am pretty sure she has read every article on how Alabama’s heat and humidity affect dogs, and she adjusts care routines accordingly. Whether it is keeping pets cool in the summer or knowing when a dog needs a little extra calm time, she is attentive and responsive. Sarah Jane grew up with Labs and Goldens, has lived with both cats and dogs (at the same time!), and even works at a horse therapy center (TROT). You can be confident that she is comfortable around animals of all kinds and sizes. She has a calm energy that puts even the most anxious pets at ease. And when I say she is dependable, I mean it. She is the kind of friend you would ask for a 3am airport ride, knowing for sure that she would show up on time. I would one hundred percent trust her with my pets (and honestly, my future kids too). Your pet will be in kind, capable, and loving hands with Sarah Jane! :)

I have a fenced in yard and a 1900 square foot home with hard surfaced floors. I don't allow my dogs on furniture, but if your dog is used to it, that is not currently a concern. My fences are sturdy and chain link, and about four feet tall. I prefer dogs that are crate trained overnight, and am happy to provide my own crates for them to sleep in. If they are not, I would happy to set up a play pen environment for them to be in!

Information Sarah Jane D. would like to know about your pet
Let me know what relaxes your pet and helps them feel comfortable. My dog, for example doesn't like strangers petting the top of her head, but she loves it when people pet her throat and chest area. Does your pet prefer constant attention or do they prefer to chew and play on their own while you are in the room?
A typical day
I love to play with my dog several times a day. When we walk its either around our quiet shady neighborhood, or just around the corner at the arboretum or hurricane creek. For dogs that are very calm on walks, I love to go to the tuscaloosa river walk so that have an opportunity to sniff the trees where tons of dogs have been. At home, I have taught my dog seveal games to wear out her energy. We either fetch outside in the backyard, play with the hose, or I hide treats around the house for her to sniff and seek. For lower energy pets, I am happy to keep them company. I love cuddly animals and I am happy to stop and read on park benches and pavillions for older or calmer dogs.

I currently have a german shepherd that I exercise twice a day either by walking, hiking, fetching or chasing hose water. Typically, I do one of these activities in the morning and one in the evening. My dog is free fed throughout the day, but I am familiar with dogs that prefer the routine of scheduled feeding or don't have self control, so I am comfortable following the routine that the dog is used to. I have a great walkable neighborhood, but I am very familiar with great places to walk and hike with dogs throughout the city. I am a grad student with lots of flexibility so my schedule is different from week to week, during the summer I will have lots of time each day to spend with your pup, but during the year I will provide excersize but less one-on-one time.
