GCACE shelter volunteer/foster

Pet care experience

My dream is to run an animal sanctuary, but in the meantime I am here to help others with their pets. My husband and I bought a fixer upper a couple years ago and have welcomed plenty of animal friends. There is our cat Kai who was found in a car motor as a kitten. We have free range chickens that we raised/hatched here that all have their own name & distinct personality. Our bunny Boo Boo free roams in my daughters room (with a baby gate up to keep dogs out) & is a retired classroom pet. We have a senior Treeing Walker Coonhound named Mountain Man that I rescued from a terrible condition in Feb of 2022. We have the star of the show, our mixed herding breed dog Blue who was adopted from the Lincolnton shelter and his sidekick Ember, who was adopted from the Gaston County shelter after I took her in as a “foster.” In 2022, I was able to foster 4 dogs & a kitten & helped many friends with their pets. I grew up in an animal loving household and have always been around a variety of pets including dogs, cats, birds and guinea pigs. I have experience with handraising kittens, chickens and ducks.

What a blessing to have found Sara to take care of my very anti-social cats while I was on vacation. She did a wonderful job! I felt very comfortable with her the first time we met. She even brought H and H out of their shells. They are normally scared of everyone but they came out of their hiding spots for pets and play when she came to visit. She took care of all their needs and made sure they always have fresh food and water and a tidy litter box. One of my babies have kidney issues and has to have special care and I have anxiety leaving him but she made me feel a whole lot better by sending me pictures, videos and texts messages after every visit! You can not go wrong with Sara as your fur baby sitter!

Sara went above and beyond making sure our two babies were more than taken care of! She treated them like her own and even checked in with us and sent pictures while we were away of their multiple walks, playing ball, and couch cuddles. We will most definitely leave Huck and Finn with her again!

I've used Sara a few times both for an overnight visit and drop in/walks when I am away for a day. She's been great each time! Always gets there during the time of day I asked and sends pictures and updates throughout her time with my dog, cats, and guinea pigs. For the overnight visit, I also received a ton of pictures and updates! This was my dogs first time spending the night somewhere else and you could tell she felt very comfortable with Sara and her family. Yoshi is a GSD and can get separation anxiety, but Sara kept her busy playing with her and her dogs that it didn't affect too much! I'd definitely recommend Sara for anyone looking for a sitter! 10/10.

Sara is an animal whisperer. Look no further for peace of mind when you’re out of town. Her updates are perfect and your fur babies and home will be in excellent hands. We were nervous as Rover is mostly for dogs but Sara also has a cat. We couldn’t be happier with the love and care she gave our 20yr. old cat Murphy! She will be our 1st choice every time?. Thanks Sara!

When doing drop ins & walking dogs, I want to make sure their ID tag and microchip is current. I have great communication skills & will update you with pictures and details while with your pet. My dogs are 60lbs & 80lbs so I am able to handle large breed dogs. On certain Mondays & Fridays, I will be offering dog outings to our favorite places like Crowders Mountain, Rankin Lake, Dallas Park or the Lincolnton Rail Trail. At my home, I have a gate on my front and back deck for the dogs as well as a fenced in backyard. We have a large crate & small crate and ability to keep animals separate if need be. Compatibility with my animals will determine how much free range your pets have in the house and yard, but we allow pets on the furniture and in the bed and treat them like family while here!

Information Sara S. would like to know about your pet

Before going in public, I like to know a dog's typical comfort level with other people, specifically children and dogs. I have experience with reactive dogs. I would love to schedule a meet & greet before our first service so we all can get comfortable together. I want you to feel relaxed and trust your furbaby is in good hands!

A typical day

Dogs deserve to live their happiest lives and it is no doubt that walks are often their favorite part of the day. I try to walk a minimum of a mile with my fur friends to ensure that they have burned some energy. My favorite places for dog walks are Crowders Mountain, Lincolnton Rail Trail, Rankin Lake and Dallas Park. Where we go will depend on the reactiveness and leash training. Playing is also another big part of our routine & I enjoy playing fetch, tug-of-war, and teaching tricks. I use treats and toys for mental stimulation so your pup gets the most out of their time with me.
