Loving, Responsive, Knowledgeable.

Pet care experience

Hello! My name's Sam and I absolutely love this job. I moved back to the Midwest in 2020 after spending the previous 8 years in San Diego, New Zealand, and then Portland. I have really loved building ongoing relationships with more pups since being back! My favorite part of Rover is not only gaining a new companion, but I thoroughly enjoy the process of meeting people through the love of their animals (I've met two best friends on here!). I've been on the Rover platform for ten (!) years, but outside of this, I'm a certified trainer with five years of hands-on experience working in behavior modification. I've worked with fear-aggression, anxiety, dog-aggression, and basic obedience under behaviorists at The Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles. My 200 hour mentorship was under The Mutt Mentor in Sonoma, CA. The majority of dogs I work with can be described as "selective." I'm comfortable with dogs (and animals in general) that are particular with people as I can offer a very unassuming, gentle approach that quickly earns trust. Some side notes: *The price you see is likely for just one dog. Please make sure you’re comfortable with the price of additional pets before requesting a M&G. For the sake of fairness to others, I will not negotiate pricing. *Please add cats to your stay.

Sam did a wonderful job taking care of our pup. Somehow she got him to eat no be so depressed which made our vacation a bit more enjoyable not worrying about our pooch.

Sam is a treasure. We have a lot of pets - cats, rabbits, a Guinea pig with a quirky dog included - and she took it all in stride. Sam is easy-going and extremely intuitive to pet needs, very communicative, takes the best pet pics, and left the house in excellent condition. She stayed in our home while we were away for five days since our dog has separation anxiety. Upon our return, our critters were very happy to see us but clearly well cared for and relaxed. We had a better vacation because we knew our beloved animals were well cared for. Thank you, Sam!

Safety, trust & environment

When I housesit, I do stay overnight at the home with the dog. Housesitting is definitely my preference. Over the years, I have found this eliminates the first few days of stress that I see in most boarding situations. I do not currently have any dogs of my own. I always let people know that when I'm not taking care of the dog's walks or feeding, I can typically be found hanging out with them watching movies or reading a book. I'm happy to take garbage and recycling out, grab mail, and attend to anything else you need! I will never snoop through people's things or take anything unless given permission. Your home will always be left better than you left it. :)

Information Sam P. would like to know about your pet

I always ask how a pup does alone for a few hours at a time. I am not a great fit for severe separation anxiety or dogs under the age of 2 that are not crate trained. I do work part-time. If I am boarding, the dog is with me 24/7. :) I LOVE big, strong breeds. I have never had an issue walking a big pup despite my small stature (please use pack walk pictures as reference!) and I have over four years experience providing leash lessons.

A typical day

I treat every pup like a guest I need to entertain. To me, it's most important to stick to routines your dog may have to make their stay as comfortable as possible. I'm happy to provide the same food and walk schedules that they have with you, along with adding in some bonus ones!
