Animals are Smart

Pet care experience

It’s all about positive reinforcement. I learn so much from being with animals. I appreciate each interaction I get with them. I care about providing mental stimulation and exercise. It works. Communication goes a long way with animals. They are so inherently good, and I become a better person by spending time with them. I know what it's like to need help with babysitting and or even just a helping hand. I'm here for you!

Our dog Jack had a great time with Sally and her adorable dog Sadie. They went on a walk the first day then to the park and the river the second day. He is exhausted! In a very good way. I will call Sally again the next time we are in Chico. She’s very sweet and seems quite in tune with the dogs attitude and feelings.

My first time leaving my puppy, Sally was easy to contact and sent photos during my puppy’s visit. She has a wonderful shaded, fenced yard as well. She gave me a couple of loose leash walking tips at pick up too. We will be visiting again, maybe add on a walk a week .

Safety, trust & environment

I have a fenced yard and live in a small home with wood flooring. There are no cords or hazardous materials for animals to get into, and I keep a close eye on any creature in my care. I do not walk dogs off-leash or at the park unless I trust and know them well enough-- or if they do not recall. I go on a walk in the morning and the evening at different times. I believe in positive reinforcement. Animals will mirror and respond to how you behave most times, so it is important to give them love and attention. In my home, I let them know that they are hanging out with me while their parents are gone, and that they'll be back soon! When I'm caring for animals in someone else's home, I tell them I'm there to visit and play with them. It's all about friendly, loving communication and praise.

Information Sally M. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if the dog has any special needs, temperaments, triggers , what works and what doesn't, or anything helpful that you personally care about which you think I should know. We all know ourselves and our animals best, so I trust that you will tell me what works for you and what you want for you pet.

A typical day

Fetch, teaching new tricks, running or going for a walk. I like to take dogs around my neighborhood, to Bidwell and all of Chico's parks. If I'm trying to get to know a certain breed better, I usually look up information on the internet about them and find out what they're bred for and where they excel best. Usually, the answer tends to be walks, engagement, games, and love. I walk my dog in the morning and the evening, sometimes we go for bike rides, and find river spots. It depends on the day.

I am enrolled full-time as a student at CSU Chico and a lot of my classes are online. I spend my time studying and walking dogs, going to the park, and training. Pet care works for me, because of my study schedule. I like the flexibility of being about to care for pets as a job, because I get mental breaks by going for walks with animals or caring for another creature. I'm grateful.
