Pet care experience
PLEASE READ FULL PROFILE. I have my own pets too, including cats that live inside with me. If you need boarding or day care services, please determine if your pet is a match first. I began as a full-time veterinary technician in 1988, working part time on the side at a boarding kennel until 1991. In 1994 I bought my own aging boarding kennel and built it into a quality business. I began showing collies, then moved to collie rescue. Later I returned to vet tech work. Now I have eight cats and two dogs. In 2019 I bought some chickens. I enjoy tropical fish as a hobby. Both working in the rescue world and as a vet tech taught me much about quirky, unique, or different pets and their needs. I worked in security for ten years, with two years overlapping when I returned to pet sitting via Rover.com in 2016. In early 2018, I decided to leave security work and make the full-time commitment to pet care. Soon, I registered my business as The Critter Sitter, LLC. I am also a published author, with several novels and novellas, articles and essays all in print. I am a regular contributing writer for Asheville Pet Gazette and had several articles in Critter and WNC Woman Magazine in the past. I do not work outside the home, so I have all day to devote to what the fur-kids need. Pet sitting and dog walking are my full-time job. I have a secure, fenced yard, plus I do not leave the dogs outside unattended. For dog walks, I always use leashes. I also always want a meeting prior to accepting new clients. Again, I have house cats, so please ensure your dog would be a fit before contacting me for boarding or day care. I work full time as a pet care provider, so I can meet your pet's individual needs. I have a team of dependable pet lovers available for all schedules. I have a large fenced yard, and gates inside the home to separate dogs into different rooms if needed, like during mealtimes, etc... I also have spaces for quiet time for dogs who just want to get away and relax.
Reviews
Christen (who works with Ryan) took care of our two old cats as a last minute booking while we were away for a family emergency. She provided updates/pictures at every visit which allowed me to worry less about my furbabies so I was able to focus on my family. When we returned home, the cat’s water bowls were full, their litter box was clean, and there was no food dishes in the sink. I can’t recommend her enough and will continue to request her to cat sit when we leave town. Thanks Christen!
Took great care of refer babies. Thanks I’ll call you the next time we need you.
Katrina and Christen were great with Fenway. They were very communicative each time they visited. I received pictures and updates on the time they spent with him. I will 100% use their services again!!!
We have had our dog stay there twice. Ryan I'd very kind and is great with our dog. She does have a lot of animals when we drop our dog off. So if your pet doesn't do well with others, maybe not this place.

Information Ryan S. would like to know about your pet
History of the pet. How long has he/she been with its family, background and origins. Favorite activities/toys/treats/etc... What not to do and why (behaviors that might unknowingly upset or scare the dog. Any known allergies. I give random flavored treats and do not want to aggravate known allergies to ingredients. Also, PLEASE NOTE-- please bring your pet's food in a baggie/ Ziplock or container. I have small storage spaces, so large bags of food, or large containers, are hard to keep.
A typical day
Each day is different, depending on the needs and desires of each pet and the service I am to do. It could be a fun walk, ball playing, or just cuddling. Dogs have access to large, fenced yard, where they can lounge, run laps, play, wrestle, roll, and be dogs. They come inside, where they can play games and run through the house like wild horses. Or they can take naps, sprawled over beds, the floor, and on doggie bed, or they can find that quiet spot that makes them feel safe.
