I'm a pet sitter you can trust

Pet care experience

I've grown up with all kinds of dogs, big and small, with all kinds of temperaments. I know how to keep up with energetic pups, how to patiently play with persistent pits, and how to snuggle up on a slow day where your dog wants nothing more than to sleep the whole time. I love animals and will treat your loved ones like my own pets. Sadly, I no longer own a dog of my own but that makes the joy of helping you with your pets all the more wonderful for me! I first grew up with a German shepherd who was very protective, and then with a "Shiloh" shepherd whom I took care of from the moment we adopted him from the SPCA as a puppy to the moment he could no longer stand or eat or drink as a senior... And I stood by him as he took his last breaths. I do have two cats that I've taken care of for about seven years and love more than I ever thought I would. Gigi is my sweet boy who likes hanging out on shoulders where he's in perfect reach for ear scratches, and Sidian is my cheeky guy who might bite your toes one moment and then snuggle up in the next second. Gigi is an orange domestic cat, and Sidian is a tuxedo domestic cat- both short hair. I taught them both to sit (though cats are very stubborn students). I also grew up taking care of fish, frogs, two cockatiels, and often stayed over the weekend for family to take care of a very large tortoise.

Ruth stayed with our slightly needy and high energy dog for over a week. She sent us lots of pictures of fun activities and snuggling while we were away. Both dog and house were in great shape when we returned. We highly recommend Ruth as a fabulous caretaker for your pet!

I always refresh the water bowls before providing food, and I'll make sure to wash the bowls after feeding if I have enough time left in the drop in. For cats, I have no problem changing the cat litter. For dogs, I similarly have no problems with picking up their stool after walks or letting them out and I have my own bags for such occasions if I run out or there aren't any currently in the pet's home. Depending on the amount of mess created from your pets (if they vomit or there's a hairball or a lot of shedding or cat litter outside the litterbox), I have no problem cleaning up after them either. Your pets will get a lot of affection and play time with me otherwise.

Information Ruth B. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if they have any allergies to foods/treats, if there are any nervous habits they have that I should be aware of, any areas of your home or furniture that they are not allowed into or on top of, and if they are good with other animals or children if I walk them in a public area. (The last bit is especially important if you live in a busier area where there may be other distractions or dogs that could excite your pet- the health and safety of your pet will be my highest priority). I am more than comfortable with taking care of special needs pets so long as I'm made aware of their care routine and any local veterinarian whom I can bring your pet to if there is an emergency. In conjunction with this, please also let me know if there are any medications that need to be taken by your pet and their frequency of dose. In case there are any accidents (bathroom or hair balls or otherwise), I will ask for where your cleaning supplies are to clean up the mess as soon as possible for you. Other than that, just let me know if there's anything more I can do for you while you're away such as if you need your mail brought in or your plants watered. Sometimes pets just want their space for a bit to nap and I end up with a little free time. ☺️

A typical day

With dogs, I enjoy starting the day with a good walk and physical activity! We'll play with toys, see how good they are with getting brushed, and see about sneaking them healthy treats like carrots. For cats, usually as soon as I arrive I try to feed them. (That's usually as the cats demand haha.) I'll give them fresh water, and while the cats are busy eating then I'll scoop their litter. Once that's set, then it's time to match the same mood as the car. Do they just want to watch me from a distance and keep their space? Do they want to play? Do they want to be pet? Treats? Once I have an idea, we go from there. If there's an oral medication for either dogs or cats, it's typically easier to administer through food or so I always try to administer medication with their normal feeding time or with snacks or pill pockets if I can. I will always refresh their water and clean out their bowls regularly.

I'm currently working another job at a dog daycare and boarding facility. On Mondays I work from 6:30AM to 1:30PM. Tuesdays I work from 7AM-11:30AM, and 1:30PM-5:30PM. Wednesdays I work from 1:30PM-6PM. Thursdays and Fridays I work from 7AM-11:30AM, and from 1:30PM-6PM. For fun, I also play softball from June through August in the summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the evening. While games are flexible, if I am committed to attending a game then I would likely be unavailable from 6:30 to 8:30 those evenings until the season is over (unless you're comfortable with your pup coming to the game to support the team).
