The Crate Escape: Cats & Dogs

Pet care experience

I love that every pet has a distinct personality and I really enjoy getting to know all about them, their interests, their quirks, whatever makes their tail wag or makes them purr! I understand how difficult and confusing it can be for dogs and cats when their parents go away, so it's my priority to make them as comfortable and happy as possible. When an animal is in my care, it's important to me to always care for them as I would my own because for however long I'm looking after them, they are my baby too. I have been pet sitting since I was 15 for cats, dogs, bunnies and more. I'm also a dog walker/trainer and I take care of dogs on a daily to weekly basis. While I get along with all kinds of pets, I have a special soft spot for cats. I'm very good with cats and even if a cat doesn't like strangers, they usually warm up to me and I can get them playing and purring in no time. I've worked with rescue dogs who are wary of strangers and special needs dogs who need a little extra care. I take care of all kinds of cats and dogs, whether they are small or big, youngster or senior, friendly or shy, special needs or not. I consider myself to be empathetic because I'm very in tune with the feelings of those around me, and this includes pet friends. I can sense how a pet is feeling and I can work to help them; their comfort is important to me. I’m also independent and self-reliant, which I think are good qualities in a pet care provider because I can manage my own schedule and I work well on my own, which is how most sitters operate. I also don't easily get frustrated and if a pet I'm caring for needs to go slower or takes longer to complete certain tasks, I'm understanding and I don't get tired of waiting -- I'm very patient with our furry friends.

Ruby did a fantastic job while cat sitting. Our car escaped right before we had to leave town, and Ruby searched for and found our cat, bringing her into our house. We were able to enjoy the rest of our trip knowing that Ruby had found our cat, for which we are very thankful!

Ruby is simply wonderful with Mishka, and we have full confidence that she will take loving care of our kitty while also giving us such helpful, detailed reports. Thank you, Ruby!

Ruby did a fantastic job, and was clear and quick to communicate for booking and any questions related to care for our animals. Would definitely recommend!

Information Ruby S. would like to know about your pet

For Dogs: I like to have as much info about the dog as I can, breed and age is good to know, but what's really important to me is finding out how the dog is with strangers, do they have any triggers, if there's anything about their past I should know, such as if they are a rescue or have been abused in the past. This information helps me adjust my interaction with the dog so that they can be as comfortable as possible. I'll also ask about their regular routine so I can stick to it as closely as possible. This will make things feel more normal to your dog when you're gone and help their comfort level. For cats: Knowing their age and breed is always good to know! It's important to me that I find out if your cat has any triggers, any quirks or unusual behavior that I should be aware of, as well as things your cat loves. I also always ask how your cat reacts to being picked up; in case there's any kind of emergency and I need to pick them up, it's good to know their comfort level with that.

A typical day

I love to go exploring on walks with my dog friends. Instead of a quick jaunt, I like to take an hour-long walk as that’s much more fun and it allows us to explore new parks or old classics, like the Emerald Necklace, Boston Common or Boston Gardens. There also are lots of nice biking trails I've found all over Boston that I'd love to explore with a furry friend! If your dog needs a lot of exercise, it’s not a problem at all and if your dog wants to play tug-of-war or fetch, I'm good for that too! As for cats, I've been able to get even the laziest of cats to exercise, we'll have plenty of playtime.
