Friend to Creatures Big and Small

Pet care experience

Highly active retired Navy vet with lots of time to spend with your fur babies. One day we might cruise Alki beach, throw a ball in the backyard, or even take a swim at my lake house in Stanwood. I’m always on the go and love bringing the doggies along. When I’m not spending time with my kids or animals, I like to cycle, golf, spend time in nature, and generally be moving around unless I'm asleep. I can’t wait to explore nature more and go on adventures with your furry friend. I will work hard to earn the trust and respect from you and your pup. My children have lived around dogs their whole lives. They love animals and have a Maltese named Romeo with their mother. He is an old family pet who is 13 years old, so if my kids are around, they will love and respect your dogs as their own. I can’t tell you how super excited I am to start this phase of my life to help others while caring for our furry friends.

My english bulldog westley was right at home with Rick. Rick provided a lot of updates and was very accommodating.

Rick watched my dog Pete for several days while I was out of town. Even though he's a shy old dog, when I picked him up Pete was clearly a very happy camper. Rick was flexible with drop off and pick ups, and sent plenty of updates. Pete was happily tuckered out from his time with Rick's dogs, and clearly relaxed. I would definitely call him first next time I need a sitter. His place is well set up and fenced as well.

Rick was really communicative and accommodating throughout the entire process and our boxer Kimbo seemed to enjoy his time, as well. Would recommend.

Information Rick M. would like to know about your pet

I welcome meet and greets so we can all feel at ease and comfortable with each other. It’s also a great opportunity to discuss your pup’s details, like diet, medications, triggers, habits, schedules, etc. I love the process of getting to know each animal on their own terms and in their own time, but it’s very helpful to get the basics from the start. It will help to know what to avoid and what to focus on. I also want to make sure you have peace of mind while you’re beloved pet is with me, so I will keep an open line, day or night! Please feel free to call or text just to even say hello! I will happily send updates throughout the day too, so we can keep the flow of dialogue open.

A typical day

I live in the Admiral District in West Seattle. I have a fenced backyard with a doggy door. There is an detached cottage on the property, and depending on your dog’s personality, they can stay in there or at the foot of my bed. There’s plenty of room to romp around. My girlfriend has two dachshunds that they can play with. Although, I have found that if here is a large size difference, they tend not to play so much. But we don’t take issue with dogs on the sofas and I’ve seen big dogs turn into lap dogs after observing the little doxies. Please let me know if you want me to restrict couch access because I’m a softie. I take advantage of all West Seattle has to offer. Scenic walks, skateboarding with the dogs on the beach, secret hidden trails in the Duwamish green belts. I don’t assume the dog park is the right place for each pet, so unless you ask me to take them to the dog park, I won’t. Along with my home in West Seattle, I spend many weekends at my lake house in Stanwood which is an added bonus. The property is fenced in the back and the only escape is a swim in the lake. I will leash your dog based on their personality. I know some dogs like to run more than others. Family get togethers often involve a soirée of family pets, so your doggy will also get that bennifit as well.
