Hiking Buddies hit the trail

Pet care experience

I do more than just walk your dog....I take your best friend on a real hike! And I only take 1 dog per hike...your's will have my complete and undivided attention at all times. The hikes can be short (half day; 2-4 miles), or long (all day; 5-10 miles) with a degree of difficulty from easy to strenuous. You choose what's best for your dog that day. I am an Alpha with successful dog handling and training experience. Dogs understand me and I them. They respond well to my proven style of love, discipline, reward and love. You can drop/pick up your pooch off here, or I can come to your place. You can provide treats and food, or I will. You can provide the collar and leash, or I will. These services are all included in the price. If you have fetch or chew toys , I'm glad to bring them along. Boarding your dog overnight before or after a hike is generally no problem. I have a fenced back yard and a warm house. Your dog always gets treated like family. Part of that family is my two cats, Yin and Yang. No worries! They're outside cats, have their own space, and your dog will probably never see them. NOTE: My service is different than most.. Your dog and I are "Hiking Buddies", we out and about for either half day (1-4 miles) or full day (5-10 miles). RATES: Half-day $65 Full-day $120 Your best friend will return home happy, and ready for a good sleep.

I've known Richard for over 30 years and in that time, for the most part, we have always both had dogs. He has cared for my dogs many times. My dogs were always completely excited to go visit the Nevel household and hang out with his family. Richard is also an avid walker and hiker and I've seen him handle some difficult situations with less than friendly dog encounters.

Information Richard N. would like to know about your pet

Medium to X-Large dogs tend to do best on the longer and more challenging hikes, but I'm glad to work with small dogs on trails that they can handle and will enjoy. Before I take any dog for the first time we do a meet-and-greet to be sure your dog and I are compatible. I don't work with overly aggressive dogs and guard dog breeds.

A typical day

There are a variety of specific trails I like to use, depending on the time of year and weather. They range from the easy downtown to Fairhaven and back walk thru Boulevard Park, to the strenuous hike of Church Mountain. Along the way there's time for swimming, playing fetch and just being a dog.
