Pet care experience
Hi There! My name is Remy and I have worked with dogs professionally for about 12 years now. I want to be a dog sitter for several reasons, but mainly because I have a natural instinct when it comes to what a dog needs: is he or she shy? nervous? aggressive? It is very easy for me to read those instincts through their body language and decide what technique is best for that specific dog. For example, a dog who may have been abused, often does not allow people to pet their head. This is because the action of a hand coming towards their head, even for a gentle pat, looks like how the past owners may have hit them. With dogs like that, I avoid petting their head and just let them sniff my hand until I feel that they are ready to be pet, even if that just means a quick pat on the back. I have volunteered now for almost 200 hours at Culver City's Adopt & Shop, which is an animal shelter for dogs and cats. I have also been a private dog walker for a few years, so I certainly do not have a hard time leashing the dogs up and taking them for long walks. Generally when I walk dogs, I will walk them for about an hour, either along the beach, or a long adventure in the park. This, of course, includes playing fetch and giving them LOTS of belly and butt rubs. I work part-time, but I will do my best to move it around in case anything interferes. I do not have a problem with any type of dog (Pitbulls, Great Danes, puppies, etc.) I have also grown up with a lot of other animals in my home: several lizards, chinchillas, frogs and even tarantulas- you name it! In other words, I have no problem caring for other pets that you have in your home. I hope that I can be a great fit for you and your family because I absolutely love all animals, especially dogs, and I have no problem at all staying overnight :) Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day! Remy
Reviews
My partner is up at OHSU receiving treatment and I have been a wreck. Remy watched Sophie for a week while I went up to Portland. Remy did a fantastic job. Sophie got along with her dog Russell and they seemed to all have a GOOD TIME!! Remy was careful and played with the dogs and took them on long walks. Sophie also met some of the people in her apartment complex. Remy knows a lot about dogs, and I felt very comfortable leaving Sophie with her for a week. This was the FIRST time my doggie was away from me for days and I am so glad Remy was able to take care of her. THANKS REMY!! Sophie will come visit again!
Remy was great overall, especially during the introduction of Duke to her and Russell. Duke seemed right at home with both of them, and didn't have any of the separation anxiety that he usually exhibits when we're ready to leave. Remy's home is set up to be a fun, cozy place for her canine (and feline) guests, and the photos she sent us throughout our trip showed that Duke was having his own little vacation while we were gone. We returned to find Duke happy, in great shape, and with all his belongings neatly packed. Thanks again, Remy!
Remy was very compassionate and patient with my dog, who’s definitely a “mama’s boy” and tends to get anxious in unfamiliar environments. I was confident that he was in good hands and well taken care of!
We were so pleased with the care provided by Remy! She was very patient with our dog, also named Remy, who was a bit nervous about staying away from home. He is older and Remy was very attentive to his needs.

I live in an apartment complex but luckily I have a patio! My dog loves to sunbathe out there, and when it comes to exercise, we go on long walks and love to hike!

Information Remy D. would like to know about your pet
I do not have any breed preferences. I would like to know if they were spayed if for whatever reason a dog who is not neutered were to all of a sudden hump her. Also it would be helpful to know about their overall personalities: shy, not great with other dogs, scared of certain people etc. I certainly do not mind which category they fall under, I just need to be prepared :)
A typical day
I will walk them around the neighborhood avoiding major streets due the loud noises causing stress on shy dogs, and bikes or skateboards causing more energetic dogs to get amped up. I love to play with dogs as if I was one- rolling on the ground, playing tag and hopping around like a bunny- that’s my dog’s favorite game haha
