Can I pet your dog?!

Pet care experience

I always had a dog and multiple cats growing up. I’m most familiar with Labrador retrievers but I definitely love all breeds! My last dog had seizure disorder, GI issues, and severe separation anxiety so I’m very comfortable with giving medication to a pupper that doesn’t want it. While all my dogs have been fairly calm and do well on a leash, I’ve babysat a friend’s dog that is very high energy and doesn’t do well on a leash, so I am happy to help with difficult puppers, as well! I’m very patient and willing to assist with any training you are working on. We absolutely love older dogs and they definitely have a special place in our hearts. I also have lots of experience with stubborn indoor/outdoor kitties! While cats are pretty self sufficient, I love checking in on and giving company to cats while their parents are on vacation :-)

Rachel is perfect for Rover! She has had pets all her life-mostly dogs and cats-and has been a huge part in taking care of them. Starting out with feeding, watering and playing, working up to walking/running, and taking them to the vets and dispensing medicine when needed. She truly loves animals and is all about making sure they are taken care of and having fun with them! Her goal is to start an animal sanctuary and I'm sure once she moves out of her apartment and into her house she will be on her way!

Rachel was born to be a dog caregiver. Her dreams to one day own a dog rescue can’t come soon enough! Every dog needs a Rachel in their lives. It’s easy to simply feed, water, and let a dog go potty, but when she’s in charge you can bet your bottom dollar your dog is having fun and getting loved on too! She’s the perfect mix of organized and adventurous. She’ll keep them on their owners schedule and make sure to jam pack “fun” and exploration in between! From hiking, walks, playtime, and beach visits, any dog would be lucky to stay in Rachel’s company. In fact, they probably won’t want to leave!

If you are looking for a loving, trustworthy person to care for your dog, Rachel is your person. I don’t know of anyone that loves dogs more than she does. She treats my dog as if it is her own, and I can guarantee she will do the same with yours!!!

Garrett and I are currently living in an apartment while we build our house. We signed up for Rover because we really miss being able to have a pet! We are patiently awaiting the day we can have our own doggies, and in the meantime, we would love to spoil yours! Our new house is in a secluded area close to Saugatuck State Park and we love taking our friends dogs to run around in our new yard and hiking to the beach after! If you dog likes swimming, we would love to take them to the lake!

Information Rachel W. would like to know about your pet

What is your dog’s energy level? How far/long are they comfortable walking? Do they prefer to walk or run? Are they good with other dogs? Are they friendly toward people/kids? Are there certain commands you use/they are trained to follow?

A typical day

We love hiking at Saugatuck Dunes State Park. There are tons of trails that are more secluded for dogs that aren’t very social. We usually hike all the way to the lake so we can take the dogs swimming (if they’re into that!). It’s very secluded, most week days there aren’t any other people, and a great place for dogs to run and get some energy out! We do a lot of hiking at Riley Street park and Van Buren Street Dunes Park. If your dog is good off leash, Kirk Park is a great place to allow them to socialize with other dogs. If your dog is older or not very active, my husband and I enjoy disc golfing, which is a great way for older dogs to get exercise while being more slow paced and getting a lot of breaks :-)

I work full time third shift, so I have quite a bit of flexibility with timing. I also work 12 hour shifts frequently and some weekends so I end up getting lot of days off during the week. My husband (and fellow dog lover), Garrett, works first shift, no weekends. So, between the two of us, we’re pretty flexible!
