Will care for both dogs AND cats!

Pet care experience

I have been dog-sitting since I was 13 years old. I have worked with all dog sizes, and I will accept giant dogs only if they do not pull on the leash. I believe in positive-reinforcement training and building a relationship of mutual trust with every dog that I provide care for. I provide quality care and work well in high-stress situations. I have dedicated a lot of time to researching scientifically accurate information on dog AND cat care and have a ton of experience caring for both species. I am an advocate for animal welfare and I have had many pets of my own including dogs, cats, fish, mice, and rabbits. I will treat your furbaby with the love and dignity that every furbaby deserves. I am a college graduate who recently moved back to my hometown in the Bay Area from the DFW area. I am looking to make a little extra money while I search for employment in my field of study. Please do not be afraid to reach out to me, as my schedule is extremely open at the moment. I have a fenced yard and an appropriately sized house, but your dog will never leave my supervision. I am extremely physically capable so I can go on long walks and intense play sessions that will leave your dogs satisfied and exhausted for the rest of the day. In order to maintain the safety of all animals in the house, your dog MUST be cat-friendly. We have two resident cats whose personal space must be able to be respected at all times. One cat is very dog-friendly and is only a little anxious when they bark, while the other cat is lazy and would rather ignore dogs at all times. But like all cats, they both need their personal space to be respected in order to feel comfortable around your dog. Like I said before, your dog will not leave my supervision while under my care, so I will make sure that all interactions and introductions with the kitties does not go unsupervised. We also have a rabbit. This rabbit is extremely friendly and has has all prey-instinct bred out of him. He is not afraid of anything. However, he will never be in the same room as your dog because rabbits are more likely to trigger a predator-response in dogs and they have fewer defense mechanisms than cats do. I have seen the most friendly dogs go nuts over this rabbit, so I will not risk anything catastrophic happening while I care for your dog. With all that being said, I usually like to schedule a meet-and-greet with pets and their owners before I agree to sit for them. This is done in order to make sure that I am a good fit for both you and your pet’s needs and to get the details of the pet’s care completely understood. I also believe that the pet benefits from familiarizing themselves with the person who is caring for them, as it is less stressful on them. Please feel free to reach out. I usually like to respond within one hour of receiving a booking message.

We were so lucky to find Rachel! My parents were on vacation when their pet sitter bailed on them with three days left! We were able to book Rachel last-minute and she did an amazing job! She took great care of our pets and was so understanding about the confusion of an emergency booking from 1000 miles away. I don’t know what we would have done without her!

Rachel did a great job checking in on our two senior cats while we were out of town. We got daily updates with pictures, and she even got one of our cats to take his daily pill! If you’ve ever given medicine to a cat, you know that’s not the easiest thing to do. Thanks, Rachel!

Rachel was absolutely great to work with and both of our cats love her! She did an outstanding job of giving us updates and sending pictures during our week long vacation. My husband and I came home to two happy fur kids when we returned to town. I hope to work with RXhel again for future vacations!

Information Rachel K. would like to know about your pet

I have no breed preferences (I love ALL dogs), but I have the most experience with Australian Shepherds and other herding dog breeds. I would like to know the dog's general demeanor around strangers, energy level (high, medium, low), and feeding schedule.

A typical day

With the permission of the pet parent, I would love to take your dog to the dog park! Walks usually last around 30 minutes, unless it is too hot outside. I will also play with your dog until he tires out!
