Experienced Dog Walker and Sitter!
Pet care experience
I grew up in Albany, California, and moved to Scotland and Australia to obtain my BSc in ecological and environmental sciences. Once I graduated I moved to NYC, but moved back to the Bay Area for quarantine. Since then I’ve relocated to Lander, where I’ll be living for the foreseeable future! I'm available for all services and am staying COVID safe. Please let me know how we can arrange our interactions so that you and your pets are most comfortable! My background in dog care: I started caring for dogs in my neighbourhood even before my family adopted our first pup, Sunshine, when I was 8. Over the years I've gotten loads of experience walking dogs and making house visits, and dog sitting has become one of my favourite pastimes and a great way for me to connect with my neighbourhood community! I began volunteering at our local dog shelter and moved to the Berkeley Animal Care Services where I trained to be a red dot dog handler - BACS uses a green to red dot system, in which dogs are labelled using dots. Green dot dogs are most mild; then yellow; then orange; and then red dot dogs, who are the trickiest to handle and with whom patience and loving care are key. I continued my dog caring in Scotland, Australia, and NYC, regularly taking walks, and making house calls and overnight stays. Over the years I've worked with all kinds of dogs - I can handle a wide range of sizes, breeds and personalities. I've worked with lead-aggressive, food-aggressive and dog-aggressive dogs, timid and shy dogs, dogs with severe separation anxiety, dogs that have suffered traumatic injuries, and dogs with loads of bounding energy. I am very comfortable in my dog caring and walking abilities. I am also comfortable administering oral medication. I am always up for a walk. Generally my walks last between 30 minutes - 1 hour, depending on the age and fitness of the dog. I have my own car so I'm always up for taking hikes/longer trips for good exercise and good times! I am more than happy to make house calls while you're away; I can also watch over your house in addition to feeding, walking and caring for your pup. I generally stay between 30 minutes to 1 hour during each house visit depending on how much attention a pup needs. I will always be flexible - I'm happy to stay as long as need be. I am available for overnight stays! I always want to make sure that our pups are well loved and cared for while we're away. I am also happy to care for cats - I've spent years caring for and feeding indoor and outdoor cats. I'm definitely both a dog and a cat person! If you have any additional requests please don't hesitate to reach out, I'll do my best to accommodate!
Reviews
Rachel was very easy to work with and was very caring for my pets while I was away. Loved getting updates and pictures, will definitely be using her again in the future!
Terrific!
Rachel was great. We were eager to leave early in the morning for a 2 day weekend in the mountains and she arrived right on time at 7:00 am. Our two dogs greeted her with big smiles and wagging tails and we left them feeling they were in good hands. Rachel sent us little emails and photos throughout the weekend so we knew what the boys were up to. Absolutely worth the money and I would not hesitate to use Rachel again if she weren’t moving to the east coast in a few days.
Rachel is fantastic - we hired her to stay at our house and take care of our dog for a long weekend and she took excellent care of both house and hound. Her communication was outstanding, and I loved that she sent me daily updates and pictures. I trust her without reservation and would absolutely hire her again - and plan to do so soon! She is the best house/dog sitter we have ever had. Highly recommended!!

I keep a close watchful eye over your pets as I get to know them better. Once we've established trust and love it's very easy for me to read their behaviors and identify their needs!
Information Rachel K. would like to know about your pet
The most important thing I need to know is whether your dog has reactivities! Think about your daily experiences with your pup - you might be used to their behavioral anomalies, but it comes as a difficult surprise when I find out while I'm walking a dog that they're dog/squirrel/human reactive.
A typical day
My favorite way to start the day is with cuddles and snuggles before breakfast. And then cuddles and snuggles before bed. And pretty much all day in between! I like to take walks all around Lander. My favorite short walk is through City Park, my favorite long walk is the Tomato Loop, and once I get to know your pup better we'll go running at the Loop Trail and on BLM land!
