Hi there, my name is Rachel! I earned the title of dog mama when I began fostering for the SPCA when I lived on the East Coast. I have continued to foster on and off after returning to Iowa with AHeinz in DeSoto! My two foster fails (Thor & Tilly) have provided me vast experience in caring for dogs. Thor had severe epilepsy which required medication three times a day on a strict schedule. I helped him through minor “fly-biting” seizures, to grand mail cluster seizures. I am very confident in handling emergency situations and medical issues in dogs.

Rachel is a great dog mom! She takes great care of her dog, Thor, who is a rescue that has a lot of anxiety stemming from his bad beginning in life. She takes wonderful care of Thor and spoils him, and she will do the same for any dog under her care!
I have known Rachel for nearly 2 years and I have had her watch my chihuahua mix, Diego, for almost 1 year now. He is a high-maintenance and special needs pup, so I was hesitant to let anyone watch him except me. Rachel immediately seemed to build a connection with him, and I felt relieved to find a competent and trustworthy person to watch little Diego. Rachel is very loving to her own dog, and I know she volunteers to watch anyone’s dog she can. She is very open to disciplinary tactics on a dog by dog basis, and has always reported good things when I have her as my sitter. If you have worries about your pets safety or needs, Rachel should be your go-to sitter!

I have a large yard (over half an acre) for your pup to play. I also have a small fenced in area attached to the side of our home with a doggy door so they can let themselves in and out whenever they’d like! I crate my dog Tilly when we are out of the home, I am happy to crate your dog or leave them out to roam in our guest bathroom.

Let me know any medical needs or potential behavioral issues before your stay. I am comfortable with taking on most behavioral issues as long as I know what to expect and have a plan on how to address it beforehand! (We do not have kids in our home or any neighboring yards, non kid-friendly dogs are welcome!)
A typical day
As long as your pup loves car rides, they will come along anywhere I go! Almost every morning includes a Starbucks pup cup. I enjoy letting the dogs play in the yard (we have TONS of rabbits and squirrels around to chase) and go for walks. For rainy days or senior pups I have plenty of dog enrichment toys to play with. My favorites are snuffle mats and food “sniffing” scavenger hunts!

Availability
I’m currently working part-time so I’ll have plenty of time to play with your pups! I work 12-5 PM, however with my husbands schedule someone is almost always home. I take my pups on a brief AM walk and a longer walk after work. Any errands I run in the morning, the pups come along with! (You must be OK with me getting your baby a pup cup at Starbucks!)
