I keep it simple, with love! :)

Pet care experience

I have been working on Rover for over 9 months now! Growing up in South Dakota, I had experiance with pets of all kinds, from dogs and cats, to horses, cows, pigs, ect! I grew up with two boxers and helped deliver a litter or two. I've also worked as a ranch hand seasonally in the past so I'm very comfortable with animals of all types. I almost became a Zoologist! In the end, God had a different plan, but along the way I had a variety of different pets. Frogs, snakes, different types of rodents, and I was always the person people called to help take care of their pet family when they left town!

Rachel was great to have with Lulu while I was out of town. I got to go do what I needed to do and know she was in good hands!!

Rachel watched our two dogs while we were away for two weeks in Europe. She was very responsive and took good care of the dogs and our house. Would definitely recommend her to others in need!

Safety, trust & environment

I pay close attention to home security and like to know the owner's preferences for how they keep their house! I also like to know at least a backup emergency phone number, a vet number and what behaviors I need to watch for in the case of a sick pet. I always ask about past troubles so if in the worst case, it happens while owners are away, I can reconize medical issues right away! I have sat for many, many elderly pets and I'm happy to say none have ever had any struggles while I was there and administering medication has been a breeze! ** Please let me know ahead of time if you have a smart home, doorbell cameras, or security cameras in your home! I don't mind them but I DO mind being recorded without knowing about it! If you have cameras inside the house, I will ask if we can turn them off during my stay depending on their location. Of course door cameras, outside security cameras and the like should stay on, but I just don't feel comfortable sleeping/showering/eating breakfast and living somewhere while being watched.**

Information Rachel G. would like to know about your pet

Tell me about your pets! Do they love attention and activity? Are they more laid back? Especially please let me know about behaviours to watch out for - a lot of pets can be scared of a new person and I want to make sure they feel comfortable with me! If your pet has any medical or health issues that need attention, please let me know! I typically ask if I can arrive just a couple minutes before the owners leave the home for their trip. Even if we have met before, I have found that dogs especially feel more comfortable if I am already in the home with their owners, so they know I am a friend and not an intruder! I have noticed when I don't do this, it usually takes a few hours for a pup to be comfortable with me or even a few days. When I do, they are already comfortable from the beginning! Cats of course, are a bit tougher to crack and depends on their personality a lot more. ♡

A typical day

Everything depends on the pet's needs! Some dogs love a quiet evening inside, cuddling and watching a film, but some need to get outside and stretch their legs! I always get outside in the mornings for some sunlight so we usually go out together for a walk or potty break at least! I do have to stay inside most of the time to work, but I can and do take breaks whenever I need to give our friends playtime in a park or in the yard! Thanks to my flexible schedule no dog is left out of exercise time (which I take a bit of pride in, this makes myself, the owners and the dogs so much happier)! I only take dogs to the park if we can walk there, and I tend to avoid dog parks until the dog and I are more comfortable with eachother. Safety first!

I work freelance. I usually have a meeting or two during the day, and work online a lot! My home base is South Dakota but I spend most of my time in new places. I have worked in KC, Atlanta and now Balitmore & Washington. Sometimes I have a work day out of the house, but 90% of the time I am working from 'home' which makes me a great person for house sitting!
