R&D's Doggy Bed & Breakfast!

Pet care experience

We're two dog lovers who have grown up with doggos! Rachel's had goldens her entire life, and Demetra has not only owned dogs but worked as a vet tech in the past. Together, we've watched over 300+ dogs on Rover, cared for many cats, have also watered plants (we enjoy gardening so will gladly do this), and have fed fish (such as turtles and koi). Oh, and we've gone on sits to feed and care for chickens, too! We're excited to meet you and your pup or pups (and other types of pets)! We enjoy watching other people's animals, and we'll provide your doggo (or pet) with love as if they're our own furry child. Both of us work from home (we're 100% remote), and we work the type of job that allows us the flexibility to care for your doggo. We live in a townhome where most of the living space is on the second floor. And during the day, we work out in the open-concept living area where our dogs and Rover dogs run around and play together. We'll only accept one Rover family at a time, so if you have two dogs, we'll gladly take them together. Otherwise, if you only have one dog, then your dog will be our only Rover dog for the duration of their stay. We're currently open to sitting for your pets in our home, visiting them in your home (however many times per day you'd like), or taking them out for scheduled walks. We've left the "House Sitting" option open, too, but please note that for personal reasons we don't typically feel comfortable sleeping over in someone's house (plus, we have our own dogs to care for so need to be here in our home at night). But we will gladly accept a house sitting request, as long as the client doesn't mind that this means periodic trips to their house during the day (and not sleepovers). For house sitting, we're open to discussing in terms of how many visits are needed by you! In the past, for example, we've house sit for someone during the day and taken their doggo home with us for the night and then returned them home in the morning where we continued house sitting. We're very open to doing this! We care for pets the same way we care for our own… they’re our babies and they need lots of care, affection, and cuddle time! We treat Rover dogs like they're another member of the family. We keep a watchful eye on them as if they are another child, because our pets truly are our adopted children! :) We look forward to meeting you and your furry family member or members! *** OUR POLICIES **Due to COVID, we don’t do inside tours of the home. We’re very happy to do a meet and greet outside in our courtyard and send pictures of the inside of our place! You can also see inside photos from past clients on our profile as well!** We're SUPER flexible, and we'll work with you and enjoy taking on doggos (even last minute), but we do have some policies we'd like you to know about to keep everyone on the same page! 1) Drop-off/pick-up times for doggy boarding and doggy daycare: 8 am - 10:00 pm. We are flexible but prefer to stay within these times. If outside of these times, PLEASE discuss this with us well in advance of the stay--preferably during the meet and greet. 2) As we are NOT super early morning people, any drop-off or pick-up earlier than 7 am is going to incur an additional $20 fee. 3) While we're completely fine with longer drop-off/pick-up windows up front, we'd prefer to be given nothing greater than a one-hour window the DAY BEFORE either drop-off or pick-up. This helps us prepare for your dog's stay with us (or departure) and helps us plan things like if we do have remote work meetings, etc. That being said, we're 100% understanding if you're dealing with a delayed flight or there's an emergency and the times change. Just generally speaking, we'd like to have a one-hour window in advance. 4) For daycare stays beyond twelve hours long, we will charge an additional $10 per hour. Please let us know in advance if you plan on having your doggo stay with us beyond twelve hours for doggy daycare. 5) Please always send an ACCURATE ETA (using maps) before heading over to our place. We'd appreciate a text letting us know when you're on your way to us. This will let us be ready for your pup! 6) If you have any last-minute time changes (we totally get it!), please let us know ASAP. If you're dropping off early in the morning the next day, we ask that you let us know the night before if there are any time changes, preferably before 11 pm. Like we mentioned above, we're not super early morning people, so if we're setting an alarm to get up to meet you and your pup at 7 am (which is not our typical wake-up time), we would appreciate a text the night before if it's actually going to be 8 am. The same thing goes if you'd like us to be up earlier. If we have plans to meet you at 7 am, we're setting an alarm for 6:45 am, and so we probably won't see your text until we get up right before the meeting time. We are totally not trying to sound like sticklers here, but surprisingly these scenarios happen to us a lot, so we've decided to be transparent and add our policy about this into our profile. 7) If your dog is experiencing diarrhea or any other sickness within 72 hours of drop-off, we reserve the right to cancel. 8) For all house sitting requests, we're VERY open to discussing your needs, but please be transparent with us about what you're looking for during our initial conversation/meeting. For example, if you need us to water your plants and feed your tropical fish, or if you want us to play with your dogs a certain way, we'd like this communicated with us. We're here to provide a happy and positive experience for your pets, so please help us help you. 9) We do work from home, so if you would need us to be in your house for extended periods, we kindly ask that you give us access to your WiFi if cell service is limited. A typical day for us is waking up around 8 am and walking each dog. Around 9 am, we start feeding everyone breakfast. Then, during the day, we allow our dogs to roam freely throughout the home in an open-concept living area attached to the kitchen. We work in this room. It's a relatively large space and our dogs tend to play and run around throughout the day. For the rest of the day, we walk our dogs (and any Rover dog staying with us) every three to four hours. We usually serve everyone dinner between 5-6 pm, and then bedtime for us is actually pretty late (we're in bed around midnight). If your doggo requires special feeding times or a special schedule, we are more than happy to discuss this with you and accommodate your dog's needs. But this is our general schedule, and we typically find that Rover dogs adapt easily to the daily routine we have going on here. We live in a townhome and both work 100% remotely. We're here with our dogs (and any Rover dogs staying with us) 99% of the time--except for when we go out occasionally for things like food shopping or other minor errands. While our remote jobs are flexible, we do sometimes have remote meetings, but we're able to keep an eye on all the pups because we work in the same room where they play all day. Literally, we're sitting on the couch right in front of them! Sometimes, they're even sitting on the couch with us. It's one big, happy (and furry) working family. When we walk our dogs, we each take one dog at a time, and we cycle through all the pups in the house. We will never walk more than one dog at a time (per adult). There's only one door to enter or exit the townhome, and this is always kept locked when we are not walking dogs. If a dog were to get out through the main door, then they would end up in our courtyard--where there is another door that we keep locked unless we are walking dogs. It would be very difficult for a dog to escape our home, and we're extra cautious and aware of safely entering or exiting so that no one gets out of the house. We wouldn't want our dogs to escape, and we treat your dogs like they are one of our own while they're staying with us. The main living area of our townhome is on the second floor (as mentioned above), so we keep a doggy gate at the top of the steps. This ensures that no doggo accidentally falls down the steps or decides to stray away from the pack. *** Inside a client's home, we're respectful of all their rules, and we will follow the schedule that you need for your doggo. All we ask is that we're told upfront what your expectations are, and we will adhere to everything that's requested of us.

Rachel & Demetra took really good care of Bear! Bear seemed super excited to be back with them on the second day so I know he’s in good hands! We will definitely be booking with them again!

My puppy Khaleesi has the best time when she visits with Rachel and Demetra. They respond in a timely manner, send pictures, and take care of your friend. I definitely recommend to anyone who needs to leave their furry friend for a full day.

Information Rachel & Demetra G. would like to know about your pet

1) Is your pup house trained? We have hard floors, and we understand that dogs might have accidents in new environments, but we always like to ask this question ahead of time. 2) How do they handle walks on a leash? We do not have a yard, so potty breaks consist of us walking your dog over to a grassy area across the street. We also have bushes nearby where some dogs choose to relieve themselves, too. 3) Has your pup ever bitten anyone/any other pup out of aggression? Not mouthy playing but actual aggression. If your dog has exhibited any signs of actual aggression, please know that we will not take aggressive dogs for the safety of your animal and our own doggos. 4) Does your dog get along with other dogs? We have two big goldens and two small doggos that live with us. Our dogs are super friendly, but if your doggo doesn't get along with other dogs this probably isn't a great fit. 5) How does your doggo handle steps? We live in a townhome with living space that is predominantly on the second level. If your doggo has a hard time with steps, this may not be the right fit. 6) Is your pup food aggressive? We always feed dogs separately but would like to know this beforehand so that we can be careful with treats. 7) How often does your doggo eat and how much? We're happy to follow any eating schedule for them you'd like. 8) Does your dog have extreme separation anxiety? We've had many dogs with anxiety stay with us, and we have lots of tricks for helping them ease into the stay, but this is also something we like to find out before the sit so that we're aware. 9) Does your dog require medication? We are experienced with administering medication in the form of liquid and using pill pockets. Due to bad experiences, however, we will not pill a dog (Rachel was bitten once on a sit where we were asked to pill a dog. So, to be safe, we kindly decline any dogs that need to be pilled). That being said, we're happy to give dogs their medication via pill pockets or other methods (like liquid or crushing pills and giving it with food). 10) Does your pup have any serious medical conditions that we should be aware of? 11) Is your doggo up to date with their vaccines? Or will they be by the time of the stay? 12) If your dog is elderly, do they have special needs that we should be aware of? We will watch elderly doggos, but we'd like to know if any extra attention/care is required.

A typical day

At home with Rover dogs, we enjoy playing fetch in the house, and we also enjoy taking them on long walks around the community. We live in a gated complex that has lots of trails within the walls. The dogs we watch never get bored! When it's just us with our doggos, we really love bringing them to the beach for a family beach trip. The goldens especially enjoy digging in the sand and swimming. And the little dogs have a love/hate relationship with the water (haha), but they run around and have a great time, anyway.
