Trustworthy, reliable, experienced!

Pet care experience

Our home has been a bit of a Noah's Ark of pets and animal care. The list of animals I've cared for, fostered, and/or welcomed into our family includes dogs, cats, chickens, parrots, cockatiels, bearded dragons, snakes, guinea pigs, mice, gerbils, hamsters, fish, turtles, frogs, honeybees and even a huge Red Tailed South American Catfish by the name of Bertie! Our family currently includes 2 dogs, a cat, and 14 chickens. I've been working extensively with a local animal rescue since 2016. I am on both the vaccinations and intake teams. (I LOVE getting to be the welcoming committee for the new arrivals!) As a result of all my volunteer experience, I am quite comfortable administering injections and giving meds. Our family has fostered many animals in our home. We've had 160+ puppies/dogs pass through our home over the years on their journey to find their forever home and we've had the honor of having 3 mommas give birth in our home.

Rachel cared for our 2 corgis and 2 cats while we were away. She was very communicative and gave lots of updates with pictures. Our home is in better shape than we left it. Would love to have Rachel care for our boys again!

I have had many rover sitters and have done boarding at various facilities before but this was the first time that Ive ever been able to relax on vacation because i knew my pets were being well taken care of and actually enjoying their time. At our meet and greet, Rachel demonstrated her expertise with animals, answered any questions we had and then also asked us all the right questions. I felt completely confident with her abilities and reliability after this meeting. For the actual stay, we got more pictures, videos, and updates than ive ever gotten previously from a sitter which is exactly what i wanted. We have a 6 year old dog with bad separation anxiety and resource guarding, a 7month puppy who needs to be monitored pretty constantly, and a 13 year old cat with some health issues. We also had a last minute incident that required medication administration while we were gone. Rachel handled all of this expertly and i could tell how happy and relaxed all 3 were. Normally when i come home from a trip, my dog with separation anxiety is clearly super stressed that i was gone for so long. This was the first time ive seen him just purely relaxed and happy to see me as if i just got back from the store. If i ever leave town, Rachel is 100% the first sitter i will try to book again.

I am so grateful to have found Rachel - she did an amazing job with my little crew. I felt her warmth, trustworthiness, and love of animals instantly. It was so comforting to know that she was here with them. She sent multiple updates and photos. And because of her wealth of knowledge and experience, she was able to share some incredibly helpful tidbits with me about toys, training, etc. She is truly a gem. ?

Our 2.5 year old terrier mix is used to someone being home with him nearly 24/7 and we’ve never left him overnight. With our 6 day anniversary ski trip on the books, we knew we had to start the search for someone special to keep our only child while we were away. Luckily we found Rachel and she was willing to take on the house/pet sit for us. She took the time to visit our home two times prior to us leaving for our trip so that our dog was somewhat familiar with her. She knew all the right questions to ask on these visits and noticed even the littlest things—like a gap in the fencing that concerned her and that her winter hat was making our dog nervous! Rachel took her time with our dog and truly gave him a positive experience in our absence. She let him get to know her on his own terms—even sat on the cold hard stairs and read a book beside him since he wouldn’t join her on the couch ;) Rachel stuck to her promised schedule of care and informed me each day when she would be away from the house and when she would return. She sent us pictures and video clips each day so that we could breathe easier knowing that he was thriving in her care. She introduced new toys to him and gave us reports of how well he liked or disliked those toys. She let our dog choose the lengths of his walks each day (he gets very nervous outside but she let him tell her how far he was comfortable going) and by the end of the trip, they had conquered the whole neighborhood together! It was obvious upon our return that Rachel put our dog first for the entire length of her stay and she left our house extremely tidy and clean—we even had fresh sheets to crash in after a long day of travel home. THANK YOU RACHEL. We will always request you first.

As a care giver in your home, I would treat your pets just as conscientiously as I do my own. I look at my pet sitting time as a personal retreat for myself where I get to focus on somebody else's home and pets for a change. I love getting to meet new critters and all their fun, unique, quirky personalities. I love to read, hike, do yoga, and prep delicious food. During my stay, I would anticipate actually being in the home 75% of the time with occasional forays to perhaps explore local parks or trails. If your pup is up for a hike/walk, I'd love to take them along!

Information Rachel D. would like to know about your pet

Please feel free to share as many details as you'd like. I'd rather have too much information than too little. Schedules, feeding routines, special quirks, likes and dislikes, etc, etc. It's all good info to make our time together as enjoyable for all of us as possible.

A typical day

My overnight service is very different than most. Rather than just being with your pet for 9-12 hours, my overnight service is 24 hours of all inclusive care for your pet in your home. I commit to being with your pet a minimum of 16-20 hours during that 24 hour period. The base fee covers all meals, walks, administering meds, bringing in the mail, watering plants, etc, etc. I am an avid walker/hiker. If your pup is interested in exploring the neighborhood, or better yet, hitting some local trails, let's go! Every outdoor adventure includes the use of a Whistle GPS Tracker for all dogs >15lbs in weight. I can send you reports at the end of each day summarizing our GPS travels (distance covered, duration of activity, times of activity, maps of our route, etc) If your pup is more of a home body, I love a big cushy chair too and can certainly come up with backyard or indoor games, or heck, just do lots of snuggling if that's more their speed. I'm also very comfortable with cats and their unique needs and personalities. Our cat, Sassafras, is quite the demanding diva. I've been in her service for over 16 years now ;)

I'm recently retired, our girls are older now, and I have a very flexible schedule. Hubby retired in March of 2021 and is happy to hold down the fort for our own pets while I'm away.
