Trips should be stress-free!

Pet care experience

I'm a recent Portland State University graduate in Portland, OR with long-term experience in working with cats and dogs. Aside from being comfortable with animals through having my own fur family, I have professional experience at the SPCALA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles) - Long Beach branch working with sheltered animals in training, behavior, and care. Integral to this work is being perceptive to the animal's emotional and physical state, and adjusting your behavior to not only make the animal more comfortable, but to work with them so that they can more easily and readily engage with others. I have 4+ years experience of dog and cat sitting, and have references for your security of mind! My professional experience makes me a confident person when spending time with your fur family. I have regularly been complimented on my calm demeanor that works well when meeting new animals, particularly dogs and those with fear- or anxiety-based behavior, and developing a secure relationship with them during care. I also have specialized experience working with animals that endure separation anxiety during trips, or even a regular workday - if your furry family (be that cat or dog) is needing some extra comfort while you're away, my experience sets me apart from others in making sure your pet is as comfortable as possible. Along with sitting, I regularly practice standard training during my stay (which can include basic commands and proper walking). I'm currently working with pet sitting because 1) I naturally enjoy working with animals, and 2) the flexibility of pet sitting and walking works well with my schedule as a recent graduate taking a gap year before starting my Master's degree. I also work remotely for a local CBD apothecary, so that means I'll be able to spend extra time with your fur family at home, and provide extra walks and ear scratches during my stay!

Rachael was AMAZING. Communicative, flexible, and super loving to my cat. Rachael responded to every one of my messages within half an hour (so soothing to the nerves) and sent me updates/pictures of Kitty multiple times a day. My flight back got in late, but Rachael kindly stayed at my apartment with Kitty until I got back at almost 11pm. When my flight was delayed, she was super flexible and made herself available for an extra day if needed. I also came back to a spotless apartment and clean sheets. I honestly can't say enough good things about Rachael, I will definitely reach out to her again the next time I need a cat sitter!

We feel so lucky to have met Rachael! As an already anxious pet owner, leaving my pets for the first time in a year and a half was so tough. We have two sassy chihuahua's who took to Rachael's calm presence immediately. Rachael asked so many great questions and was really prepared during our meet and greet, she also sent me lots of updates and communication was always really easy and prompt. We came back to happy dogs and are already planning to work with Rachael in the future! Can't say enough nice things to be honest, great experience all round. Thank you!

Rachael took care of my cat Stanley for 2 separate trips I went on. She took such great care of him and gave him the love and attention he needed while I was gone. Would use again and recommend!

Rachael watched Beckham for a week while we were on vacation. We came home to a happy dog, got updates throughout our trip, and would absolutely have Rachael take care of him again!

Safety, trust & environment

A regular schedule is key for reducing anxiety, and consistent good behavior training is even better. And of course, play time is always needed! This helps expend extra energy, promote a positive environment and experience, mental stimulation, and to reduce separation anxiety. Pets are family, they need affection and interaction too!

Information Rachael B. would like to know about your pet

I have no breed preferences, but I typically like to prepare by asking you what the demeanor and energy level of your dog is, as well as any special details. (Are they used to meeting strangers? Are they trained with walking, or a little more on the "very excited" side of going out? Is there a special routine they like for feeding and playing?) Animals that are not used to strangers or other animals, please let me know and we can talk further about your pet's special needs!

A typical day

Whether I'm going to your place, or stopping by for a visit, our routine will be whatever your pup is used to! Be that a neighborhood jog, a trip to their favorite park, or just playing with toys in the back yard. Regular routines are key, and my priority is to make sure both you and your dog are confident and at peace-of-mind.

I'm a recent graduate working remotely that's taking a gap or "break" year before graduate school, so I have the flexibility and time for extra ear scratches and fun! I prefer to do daytime stays rather than overnight, but please feel free to ask about this if you prefer overnight stays.
