In my adult life, I owned a smaller dog, a mix of poodle and golden retriever. I cared for him on my own for almost 2 years. He is now happy and living with my best friend and her family. Before this, I took in one of my brother's pit bulls who was in a fight and needed TLC. So I basically fostered him until he was strong enough to go back. Relevant skills would be that I am careful, responsible, good listener, and energetic. The style of sitting that I give is a good mix of exercise through hikes, potty walks and if ok with the owner going to dog parks and play fetch. Your dog and I will then relax by having a snack and maybe a short cat nap. Most dogs love belly rubs so I'm generous with those. If it's a puppy then I keep a constant eye on them due to chewing habits. My last roommate had an 11 year old cocker spaniel (Sadie) and so I have about a year and a half experience with the older dog. Sadie actually had a seizure in my arms while I was watching her so that her owner could get ready to take her to the vet. I'll treat each dog or pup with the appropriate care that each deserves and requires based on their particular routines, health and personality.
