Final Year Vet Student missing time with animals

Pet care experience

Hi, I’m Polly, a fifth year vet student at Edinburgh currently at the beginning of my clinical years! I've had a dog since I was 4 and have done work experience at a dog day care and grooming business as well as 5 seasons of lambing and 2 weeks full time working at an eventing yard for my degree, alongside the classes taught in animal handling and behaviour. Our dog died at the age of 15 a couple of years ago but my parents have recently bought a lovely new puppy who is reminding me of the differences between young and older dogs! I also own 2 ducks at home and have been riding on and off since I was 4 with experience in horse care and ownership. I've taken basic care of friend's cats, guinea-pigs, chickens and tortoises, as well as helped look after frogs and snakes although I do not have as much personal knowledge with these species!

Thanks so much! Polly is super friendly and came to meet us and Bru a couple of days before our booking. Her service is 10/10 and B had a lovely walk during the day. Follow up photos and detailed descriptions of what he got up to. We are very happy and would happily use Polly again!

Polly was absolutely amazing when she looked after our Betty for us. She was punctual, kept us updated and we came home to a happy pup. Polly is an amazing pet sitter and no doubt will she become a great vet!

Unfortunately I’m not allowed pets in my flat in Edinburgh at the moment, however I’m very happy to visit owners' homes; I am also able to drive my own car while I’m down in Bath. I'm currently getting used to my family’s younger dog and so am familiar with different routines needed for different dogs. I'm happy to play with them, cuddle them or alternatively leave them be if needed but will always be keeping an eye on them to make sure they're doing okay!

Information Polly J. would like to know about your pet

If your dog has any special requirements such as medications, activity levels, access areas or equipment as well as behavioural needs (i.e. triggers) or anything else then please let me know. This allows me to accommodate these for your dog’s benefit most of all but also to research each particular need so I can be as prepared as I possibly can be!

A typical day

I love taking my family’s dog for walks in the valley where I grew up and I'm currently trying to see how far I can get with training her! I’m always up for finding new walks and I love seeing how each pet likes to spend their time, such as playing fetch with a kitten I looked after!

I'm currently a student during term time and need to be in campus on rotations from 9 - 5 most days! I love going for walks and so being able to incorporate animals into this would be lovely. Spending time with animals is one of my favourite things to do and it’s usually my favourite part of the day!
