Pet care experience
Growing up as a kid my family never had a dog, so when I turned 13 I decided to start dog walking. I’ve been dog sitting for many years outside of Rover. Years later, and dog walking/pet sitting is now my full time job! I’m now in college, and I love being able to pet sit between or before classes every day, it’s the always highlight of my week. My favorite parts about the job are getting to spend time and befriending the animals. I love building a good relationship with any pet. I’ve worked with many anxious dogs, and destructive cats, and have found the work of building that relationship to be very rewarding! Because of my experience, I am very adjustable with “problematic” dogs, and have walked them in almost every size. My dog sitting consists of lots of long walks, plenty of pets, sunbathing in parks, and fun activities. Safety and the happiness of an animal always come first.

Phebe has been fabulous with our sweet, but sometimes "challenging," semi-feral Carolina Dog (Phoenix). Phoenix took to her immediately (he's usually VERY stand-offish with people), and easily allowed her to put the leash & harness on him (he has flat-out refused with others), and has taken her lead during their walks over these past five weeks. Our dog has extremely high prey-drive, but thus far with Phebe he's been great. We have appreciated her thoughtful communication regarding timing for walks (i.e. awareness of not walking him during the extreme heat), as well as her updates and walk photos. We scheduled Phebe for weekly walks leading up to the date she would be house/dog-sitting for us, so we could be certain Phoenix would take to her. Thank heavens we found her a good fit, we are finally going away for the first time in 15 months, and taking a sigh of relief that our boy and home will be in great hands!

Breed, age, and temperament are all things I like to know. Most of my information gathering happens upon first meeting a dog, and I’m completely familiar with taking care of anxious dogs, and elderly dogs.
A typical day
A typical dog sitting session includes, firstly, a big walk. If your dog is a fan of smelling everything, I make sure to let them have that experience. Usually when walking dogs out of town I enjoy exploring the area with them. I also hold a great one-sided conversation, passerby’s will usually notice me talking endlessly to the dog I’m walking. After a long walk, if the weather is nice, spending time sitting outside is my favorite activity. Whether it be on a bench, grass, or in a backyard I love sunbathing and giving the dog some time to enjoy the weather. If an owner has a safe backyard, I try to integrate some games into the daily routine.
