Can give long walks too.

Pet care experience

Availability: Monday-Thursday: All day. Friday: Mornings only. Saturday: Unavailable. Sunday: All day. - Most of my experience is with medium to large dogs, but I don't mind small dogs and am happy to gain experience with >100lb giants. - I have experience training dogs. If you've had trouble with your dog and need advice training him/her, I can help your brainstorming. But I know when to stop - I won't nag you with an idea you've already tried or are against, nor will I use techniques you don't like on your dog. - However, if the dog behaves in ways that are a hazard to him/herself, other dogs, or children, then I must be able to set and enforce rules against such behaviour. If there's an approach to that training which you normally use, or something you don't use but want me to use, I'm willing to try it as long as it works. But if you're laissez-faire in regards to serious safety issues, and want a dog-walker to follow suit - that dog-walker is not me.

Peter handles Kane professionally. Kane can be a real handful as he is high-energy and selectively dog-reactive, but Peter knows how to assert himself appropriately so that Kane makes smart choices.

Peter has reliably walked our dog and our foster dogs over the past three years. He is conscientious, punctual, and diligent in his care of the dogs, and I would recommend him to anyone looking for care of their pet!

Information Peter S. would like to know about your pet

If the dog does not behave in ways which are a hazard to itself, other people's pets, or children, I have no restrictions. Otherwise, I must be able to set and enforce rules against such behaviour. If there's an approach to that training which you normally use, or something you don't use but want me to use, I'm willing to try it as long as it is safe. But if you are laissez-faire with regards to serious safety issues, and want a dog-walker to follow suit - that dog-walker is not me. I refuse to play tug-of-war with the dog in traffic if it's big enough to get me off the cross-walk. I refuse to let a big dog strangle a small one. No matter what the pay.

A typical day

I'm quite familiar with the greenbelt around Nepean, and would be happy to learn the nature trails in other parts of town. I don't like busy streets, because the necessary safety rules are stressful for the animal, and the risk to the animal is stressful to me - but they are in no way insurmountable. In house-visits, I can treat the dog a variety of ways. I've found that music often tames the mighty beast. I can play music for a dog to calm him/her down, and since I listen to a range of genres, I can sometimes find the dog's favorite. I even had one who's name appeared in a lot of my songs - and she really liked that! If you have a big, rough and tumble fellow, I can horse around too. Kane, for instance, weighs around 80lbs, likes being picked up or chased around the house, and loves me. Of course, if that's not your style, I completely understand. I know how to set rules for a dog, like no getting up on furniture, and how to enforce them. I can be the Alpha of the pack when you're not around.
