I am a retired federal investigator and lawyer with over 35 years of caring for dogs including my own and those of friends. Dogs I have loved range from a Pug to a Newfy, with many kinds in between. My best friend, Jethro, an 80 lb. Coon Hound, passed away in his sleep in January 2022. At this time I have no plans to replace him, rather dedicate my self to caring for guest dogs. Depending on your dog's needs, temperament, and health, he or she will be walked every day. I can vary walks from short, to long. For your dog's safety and comfort, he or she will always be on leash when outside of my securely fenced yard. When the dog is in the back yard he or she will be constantly monitored. I do not just put a dog out and leave it unwatched. I have a large, fenced and shady back yard excellent for cool doggie lounging on warm sunny day, and doing roomies alone or with other dogs. For me dogs are God's most noble creatures, and deserve only the best and most responsible of care. For that reason, when asked for, I I require documentation of up to date vaccinations and parasite control from all of my clients. I keep guest dogs several times a month. I am generally home most of the day, and all night. I may have to go out to run errands. At times, with client's permission, I can take your pet with me in the back of my Jeep which has a dog barrier to keep your pet safe and secure. My house is dog friendly. Dogs are allowed generally free to lounge or sleep where ever they want including most of the furniture. I have a large and securely fenced back yard where your pet can lounge, run freely or play with other dogs. My fence is four feet on one side, and five feet on the other. For your pets security I do not accept dogs under about 45 lbs. I may make an exception based on my evaluation at a meet and greet. I require a meet and greet for all new client guest. Meet and greets are at a forest preserve in cook county. This is for several reasons. First I want to evaluate your pet, to determine if they will be safe and happy in my home. Also rover.com recommends, and I agree, that all fist meetings should be in a neutral place, such that any territorial issues are negated. I never leave a pet alone all day, and never ever over night. If your dog is crate trained, and sometimes requires that "my cave" feeling as some dogs do from time to time, I do have a large crate we can use with or without the door closed. I have allowed clients to bring their own crate, but only when it is of the plastic kind. I will not allow a wire crate. The crate I have is the largest available on the market.
