Experienced dog trainer

Pet care experience

I've always been a dog lover, but I became a real "dog person" about 10 years ago, when I volunteered with an ADI-accredited organization to foster and train a Golden Retriever puppy to become a service dog. Dempsey, I am proud to say, was valedictorian of his litter, the first to pass the ADI public access test! Since Dempsey graduated, got a job, and moved out, my wife and I got another puppy. We home-schooled Dylan, and he passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen test with flying colors. He is now a TDI-certified therapy dog. You may see him at the local pet store, helping me shop by pushing the cart. We have fun swimming, hiking, and playing fetch and hide and seek. The benefit is, I love having fun with dogs, but I also know how to communicate with them. I only use clicker training and positive reinforcement; I never punish dogs. On walks (or hikes!) I will not use "choke collars." If you have a “choke collar,” I will bring my own Gentle Leader/Halti, harness, or martingale collar. In addition to training, I've volunteered with a Golden Retriever rescue. I have experience babysitting senior and special needs dogs, including giving insulin shots, pills, and sub-q fluids (both plain lactated Ringer's, or using the medication port). I just love being with dogs, and I look forward to spending time with your little guy or girl!

Paul is the best! He took really good care of him and the photo shoot he shared showed that Ozzie had a great time.

Paul was a hero in coming to watch our dogs last minute. He previously watched one before but the other 2 dogs were new and more feisty. However, Paul was very patient and welcoming to them and also was very communicative throughout the day. He even cleaned up a mess by a dog, which we were appreciative of. Paul is wonderful and am grateful he’s in our neck of the woods!

Paul did a drop-in visit to my two large standard poodles. He was very patient and kind with both my dogs, even though one was aggressive and the other very timid. I was impressed with his skill in handling them, and would recommend him without reservation.

Information Paul Y. would like to know about your pet

I enjoy the company of all breeds of dogs. But I would like to know about YOUR individual dog. When we first meet, I have a questionnaire I would review with you including questions such as: Does your dog have any fears? Is he or she dog reactive? What allergies or health conditions should I be aware of?

A typical day

Walking, hiking, and (weather permitting) swimming. And of course snuggling! Lots of snuggling!
