Pets Are Part of The Family

Pet care experience

Dogs have been an important part of my life since I was young. When I was born, my family had a female Golden Retriever named Kirby. When I was growing up she was always by my side. Since then we've had two other female Golden Retrievers, Sam and Shea. Shea is our current family dog, a five-year-old therapy dog I helped my mom to train and get certified. (Please note that I don't currently live with Shea, the family golden retriever in all my photos. I get to visit her often, but she won't be around when I'm taking care of your dog.) Between Rover and other services, and years of taking care of friends' and family members' dogs, I have worked with all breeds and ages of dogs — often staying with multiple dogs at once. Shea also has a rare autoimmune disease that causes her jaw to periodically stop opening; I've been closely involved in her treatment, and I have experience dosing and administering canine medication too. During my childhood, I had a pet gerbil and a bunch of pet fish. We also had a family cat, Lilly, who I loved hanging out with. Unfortunately, one of my older brothers grew allergic to cats and we had to move Lilly in with my grandmother. I still get to see Lilly every once in awhile, and I've enjoyed getting to know all sorts of animals. Although dogs are definitely my favorite, I would certainly offer care for just about any type of animal, even if I had to learn their care from scratch. As a dog sitter on Rover, I've gotten to meet many dogs (and their owners) in Seattle and Chicago. I've worked with all sorts of dogs, from an 8-week-old female Newfoundland puppy to a father-and-son pair of Australian Shepherds. Being a sitter gives me a chance to see new parts of cities, gain more experience working with all types of dogs, and meet tons of friendly people. And by using Rover I always feel confident that the logistical side of my service is safe and well-supported. Because I'm not worried about anything else, I get to dedicate all of my focus to working with dogs and communicating with their owners.

Would absolutely recommend Patrick to friends or family. Carlos was well cared for the weekend I was gone, Patrick kept me updated with photos. I definitely trust him in my home.

Patrick watched my German shepherd, cat, and gecko for several days while I was out of the country on business. He was great to check in a few days before to make sure things were still set, and then provide daily updates while I was away. I felt very comfortable and confident leaving him with my guys. Great, responsible guy! I would definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone needing a sitter!

Patrick was fantastic, he took care of everything that we asked him to and more (he even washed the sheets for us!) and we came home to a happy puppy and a clean house. Thanks Patrick!

Patrick was a great to work with. He stayed at our home with our Newfoundland, Wilson, for a week while we were out of town. Patrick proved to be trustworthy, easy to communicate with, and keen to fulfill all obligations and requests that I presented him with. Most importantly, Patrick showed a true love for dogs and built a strong relationship with Wilson. We look forward to working with Patrick again soon!

Information Patrick C. would like to know about your pet

No breed preferences! I need to know if your dog is aggressive around other people or other dogs. It would also help me to know your dog's typical eating, bathroom, and walking schedules.

A typical day

I always do a meet and greet before scheduling any sort of service over Rover, because being introduced to the dog while the owner is around has proven essential to building a comfortable rapport with all the dogs I've cared for. If for some reason scheduling a meet and greet before the stay isn't possible, I would ask the owner to be present when I arrive at the beginning of the stay and hang out for at least half an hour or until the dog seems at ease. I do not have any breed, size, or age restrictions. However, if I'm taking care of a puppy that isn't house trained, or another dog that requires extra care, I sometimes modify my rates slightly to reflect the extra care. I like to hear from owners what spots their dogs love to explore, and sometimes I'll let a dog guide me around their own neighborhood at first by paying attention to where they naturally pull toward on their leash. I don't like to take dogs off their leashes while they're under my care, but parks are great to walk through and sniff around.
