Who wants to keep me company?

Pet care experience

I am a 64 year old government retiree (now self-employed translator - teleworking) and live with my family (wife and 14 year old son) in a 3bed/2bath house (fenced garden). We have 2 female Chihuahuas (Hailey & Cody) who get along other dogs. If your pet is small enough, it can sit on my lap while I work on the computer. Bigger ones only get to rest their head on my lap. Other than that, I have plenty of time to walk, play (train?). Other dogs in my life have been 2 Great Danes, 1 Borzoi (Russian Woolf Hound), 1 Beagle, and 1 Napolitano Mastiff (I know, the sizes don't compare to the Chihuahuas but the love and loyalty was equally great). The house is located in a "no-outlet" street in a quiet neighborhood where pets seem to be mainly cats. I occasionally see people walk their dogs (mostly medium sized and one giant Great Dane). I am also working in and around the house (home improvement) but all tools and equipment are not within reach of the pets. Why I love dog sitting I have been a dog (and cat) lover since childhood. When I was living with my parents, we had a couple of poodles and one cat. When I got married and left my parents' home, we had 2 Great Danes, 1 Borzoi (Russian Woolf Hound), 1 Beagle, and 1 Napolitan Mastiff (I know, the sizes don't compare to the Chihuahuas but the love and loyalty was equally great). With the Great Danes I went to obedience school as my approach with these giant dogs wasn't the best one and things (actually the Great Danes) were getting out of control. After one year of schooling, I had learned a great deal more about dogs, their character and how best communicate with them. What I learned at the dog school, I applied to all my dogs afterwards and we get along pretty well. Meet my pets My two female Chihuahua pets traveled with us from Europe. There are no other pets in the house at this time. All amenities for pets are available in the house: overnight crate (open door policy); large pillows and blankets but the dogs sleep wherever they feel comfortable; filtered water/food dispenser About my yard I have a backyard that is fenced (wood) and in good condition. The terrain is rather naked (no grass, no weeds, no flowers) as it needs to be completely landscaped in the future. The positive aspect of this is that dogs cannot damage anything and will have access to the backyard without any restrictions. Dogs in the yard are always under supervision to avoid surprises and/or encounters with other possible wildlife. My experience administering medication Yes. Pills, potions, shots (under skin)

Oscar and his wife were so welcoming on Archie’s first visit. They sent notes and pictures while we were away. Excellent care! Highly recommend!

Oscar could not have done a better job! Daisy is 17 and on lots of medication. He was organized, compassionate, worked from my condo so was here nearly all the time, and managed to win her heart by the end of the week❤️ Also, my condo was spotless when I got home. Oscar is the best!

Oscar did a wonderful job watching our golden puppy for two days and one night. Mutilple picture updates over the course of the stay and our puppy was in great spirits when we picked him up! Would definitely pair with Oscar again in the future!

Information Oscar H. would like to know about your pet

Prior to accepting an assignment, I'd like to know: - the breed of the dog (just to know as I have no preference -- each breed/dog has his/her own characteristics and personality); - any health issues and need for medication; - any good/bad habits; things to look out for. Whether the dog is social with other dogs, cats, humans.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks This depends a little bit on the dog. How far he/she likes to walk. Mandatory walks are the first one in the morning (between 6 and 7 am) and one before scheduled meals. The morning walk is usually done in the neighborhood (Woods of SouthRidge - Delray Beach) while others are done on A1A (along the beach) and parcs that are open to dogs (i.e. Boca Raton). Note that in the hot summer months, walks are restricted to early morning and late evening (before sundown). During the day, the dogs are let out in the backyard when needed or upon request (this is what my dogs do) for limited periods of times before returning to the A/C inside. Your dog's sleeping arrangement In the house. I have pillows, small baskets, blankets, and a medium size crate in the living room (note that the crate remains open at all times -- my Chihuahuas have been trained to spontaneously go into the crate when the family members sit at the table to eat). Also, the crate is where the Chihuahuas retire at night or during the day when they want to be in a peaceful environment. The crate is too large for the Chihuahuas and can accommodate a medium size dog. Personal baskets/pillows/blankets can of course be brought as well. Time I'll spend with your dog Since I am on my own at home and working from home, I estimate that your dog and I would be spending a good average of 22 hours per day together. I do run errands occasionally but this is usually in the neighborhood and does not take me away from home more that one hour at a time.
