Flexible work-at-home dog lover

Pet care experience

I've cared for dogs my entire life. I trained, raised, and loved my best canine friend for the past 11 years--he was a great little guy and was always complimented on his behavior and temperament from his puppy days. I was always sure he got as much praise and love as possible--I've found positive reinforcement yields the best results. As he aged, he had special medication needs and arthritis, so I have experience with the intricacies of senior dog care as well. He was always down for a walk though, no matter what, so I never got out of the habit of taking him out. I haven't replaced him since he passed, but as someone who loves dogs I've missed the companionship that comes with having one at home. Dog people will know what I mean. I would be thrilled to apply my experience to your dog's care.

Nick was great! Super responsive and flexible with timing (which was greatly appreciated!). Lacey enjoyed her stay, and I'm sure she'll be back soon!

THANK YOU again, Nick, for allowing me to bring Bug to you on the most beautiful spring Saturday we’ve had all year! She loves walking the city on pretty days and I love knowing she’s enjoying it.

My very stubborn, 6-year old Chocolate Lab mix, Oboe, just spent a few days with Nick. When I picked her up, she acted as if she did not want to come home with me but would prefer to stay with Nick. While this is one of Oboe's standard MOs under these circumstances -- nonetheless breaking my heart -- it at least makes clear that she had a good time staying with Nick. Nick is very personable, has flexible work hours that accommodated my desire not to have Oboe left alone all day, was very prompt in responding to inquiries and sent a pic of Oboe at his place. I'd be happy to have Oboe stay with Nick again and plan to do so.

Nick was a wonderful dog sitter for us during some recent travel. He was flexible with pickup and drop off times and asked some great questions to ensure our pup received great care. We even got a couple of cute pictures!

Information Nick D. would like to know about your pet

-I'd like to know if he or she has any specific behavioral issues or triggers--the more I know, the better I can take care of him or her. Even the best trained dogs have a few vices. -Are there any medications or special needs your dog has? -What is the potty break situation? Can he/she hold it for more than a few hours, are potty pads necessary, are you still in the process of housebreaking, etc. -What is his/her energy level? -How well does he/she get along with strangers and other animals? -What does he/she like to do? What are the things he/she is less interested in? -I don't have any breed preferences and I am open to any kind, but I do not have a large space--it makes sense to babysit a smaller breed, or at least a fairly lazy larger breed.

A typical day

My building has a fenced in dog run for potty and quick exercise breaks. We can also take walks around Malcolm X/Meridian Hill Park, which is just a few blocks away.
