Pet care experience
I grew up training dogs for obedience, showmanship, and agility shows, so I have a fair degree of experience working with dogs ranging from not at all trained to highly trained. During this time, I also gained experience working with puppies, adult, and elderly dogs. In more recent years, I have walked dogs and done both house/dog sitting and drop-in dog sitting. Leading an active lifestyle myself, I'm always happy to take dogs on runs and hikes to burn off some energy! I live with my partner, Charlie, and he often helps out with exercising the doggos. We now have a 1.5 year old mutt (mini pinscher, whippet, and ???) who is happy-go-lucky and loves to play with others. I am also able to do cat care, ranging from drop-in to house sitting. I have a cat of my own and am well versed in following specific guidelines--we all know cats can be particular!

Neak did a wonderful job sitting with our dogs while we were staying at Best Friends Roadhouse in Kanab. She was flexible about the timing of everything and her help enabled us to have lots of time to explore Kanab while she took good care of our pups. We really appreciated her help.
Danica was terrific! Very trustworthy and reliable - we had her pick up our pup Kennedy for a walk while we were out at Zion. From the pictures, I could tell Kennedy had a great time on her walk. Would recommend Danica to anybody in the Kanab area looking for a reliable person to care for your pet while you go on not-so-dog-friendly adventures!
Extremely happy! Since we never met communication was key and she was responsive.
Danica was amazing. She was really flexible and easy with scheduling which helped us really enjoy our day in Zion NP. Her dog Ponder is friendly, and he and our dog, Cajun, played really well, I think. I would definitely trust her with our dog anytime, and I know Cajun wants another playdate with Ponder. (She also had great hiking recommendations for the Kanab area).

I am not currently taking dogs into my own place. When dropping in or house sitting, I take care to ensure there are no opportunities for a dog to get loose by paying attention to closing doors and fence gates and having a dog leashed up before transitioning into another space (from inside to outside or from yard to sidewalk). I am mindful of each animal's particular needs and set them up for success by acting in accordance with those needs.

It's important for me to know in advance if your dog has particular needs such as needing to stay away from other dogs, being reactive to particular types of humans, or having separation anxiety from their loving owners. Knowing in advance helps set us all up for success for keeping your animals happy and healthy while you're away.
A typical day
There is research that shows that taking in the world through sniffing is a central aspect of enrichment/stimulation for dogs, so I'm all about walking at a pace that allows a dog to "read the news" (i.e., smell the various smells along a walking route), as well as interacting with toys and obedience games.

I am a PhD student in the process of writing my dissertation, so my schedule tends to be pretty flexible, allowing for fitting in drop in visits and/or walks at times clients are looking for and potty breaks while house sitting with reasonable frequency.
