Flexible Scheduling, Cats and Dogs!

Pet care experience

While I grew up with cats and have loved them all my life, dogs have always had a special place in my heart. I started taking care of them when I was beginning to babysit when I was about 15. I have done a little bit of training with family members' dogs but I feel like my strong suit is the genuine connection I'm able to make with animals just by playing, eye contact, snuggles and talking to them. I view pets as members of the family and think they should be treated as such. Animals are meant to see more of the world than just their living room! I love taking dogs to new places and exploring until we're both pooped!

My fiancé and I have two adorable dogs—Doug is a Dachshund who loves the couch and Gus is a very high-energy mixed breed. My sister, Natalie, would make sure that they were fed, their water bowl was clean and full, and would make sure to take them on long walks while the two of us were at work; even Doug, who hates the unpredictable weather in Seattle. We would come home, and the two rambunctious dogs we left before work, are too tired from their earlier adventure to bark at the neighbors or cars. Whenever we were able to, we would go on a little vacation while Natalie took care of the dogs and she would send us very photogenic photos of them along with updates (honestly, I don’t know how she gets them to pose like that, because we are never able to). She would constantly play tug of war with them, throw a ball with them at the park, buy Doug clothes for the cold weather, talk to them in high pitched voices, cuddle with them, and somehow get them to stop barking at any time. I think she really found her calling since she got to live with these boys for a year. She will be nothing but terrific at caring for anyone else’s dogs/pets just by the way that we’ve seen the way that she cares for the ones that we have.

I would like to WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend Natalie as a pet caretaker. Natalie loves animals and it shows. I was recently gone for a week, and she took daily long walks with my two active dogs and had my aloof cat purring in her arms. My home was well-cared for and my pets happy and safe. Natalie communicated frequently, sending me pictures of activities and anecdotes from the week. Natalie is very responsible, friendly, and caring—I know you will be pleased with her dedication and level of care.

Safety, trust & environment

My goal with any pet is to make them feel comfortable with me, relaxed and loved. After that (with dogs especially) my main priority is to exercise and feed them appropriately, a tired dog is a happy dog! I generally prefer to not let dogs off-leash, unless I'm absolutely assured by the owner of a location/area that the dogs will do well in. When it comes to overnight stays, I prefer staying at the owner's home as opposed to boarding them at mine because I find it to be much less of a stressor on the animals. I also like thoroughly outlined instructions of commands, eating schedule/diet, what furniture they can go on, where they sleep, etc. so their lives are disrupted as little as possible. And while it's not a common request, I'm more than happy to cook/prepare whole foods for pets.

Information Natalie O. would like to know about your pet

I generally like to have a good idea of the dogs temperament (shy, friendly with people/dogs, barks a lot, leash puller, squirrel chaser, etc.), as well as any dietary needs or feeding schedule. I also like to know where their favorite places to go are, favorite toys, or any naughty habits they may have!

A typical day

Physical stimulation is very important to me as a caregiver to dogs. For shorter potty walks, I tend to stick to the neighborhood. But for longer ones Cape Disappointment is great, and I'd love to take your dog on hikes if they are physically able to. And there's nothing like a happy dog on the beach! I will typically keep dogs on leash unless the owner makes it very clear they will do fine off leash.

Availability

I'm currently just working gig jobs here and there so I am very available with no strict schedule or obligations at the moment! If it were up to me, pet care would be my full time job, so I am more than happy to spend as much time and energy with your fur babies as needed!
