Hi I’m Omi! I’ve been an animal whisperer my whole life, and a pet parent for 22 years. I had my very dog like cat siblings for 19 years. While I traveled the world I relied on a select few “aunts and uncles” to give them family-level care. Now I’m a proud dog mom to my pittbull boxer Mocha. Mocha is also an animal whisperer and service dog. She seems to adjust perfectly to each animal’s communication and play style. She is very energetic, but still does well with elderly pets and will be very laid back if your pet likes their personal space.

Very communicative & thoughtful with how she cared for my dog. I didn’t worry about him at all, and I know he also enjoyed hanging out with her dog Mocha.
Naomi was wonderful! She and her dog Mocha came and stayed at our house with our dog Hildy for the night of 4th of July and kept her calm. She walked her twice in a period of less than 24 hours and sent photos, even though it was a short stay. She was very communicative and left our house absolutely clean and well in order. We will absolutely be requesting Naomi to watch Hildy again in the future!
I booked Naomi for one night to watch Oso(my dog) at my apartment when another Rover sitter cancelled last minute, which I’m super appreciative of. She responded quickly to my many questions and was able to follow some last minute requests for when she was leaving. Given that, it felt like I was hosting an Airbnb rather than booking a sitter? As if watching Oso was just an inconvenience that she had to do while staying at the apartment. She turned the Ring Camera around so that I couldn’t view the living room anymore. Which we as hosts have a right to have. It was not hidden or in a place trying to be sneaky, it was right next to the living room TV with nothing else around it; in plain sight. She didn’t ask to turn it or mention that she had an issue which we could have accommodated. She brought her dog with her which wasn’t 100% clear from the beginning but luckily turned out okay. We went over how she was going to introduce them (because my dog can be reactive and we have not had another dog come into his territory) and her plan made sense and I was on board, however, that is not what happen. She just let them meet at once and sent me videos, Which was less than ideal. I also asked for her to not let Oso on the couches, which she didn’t BUT she allowed her dog to get on the couch? Not sure how that seemed okay to do. There was also a long period in which Oso was at home without a walk. We have a Fi collar that tracks where he is and it showed that he was at home for 19hours. So either an evening walk wasn’t done or she left his collar at home while out walking Both of which are not okay. It was right before 4th of July and fireworks had already started, so should he have been scared and ran off without a collar I don’t know how she would have handled that. The alternative to that is she didn’t give him a bathroom break for 19hours which again, is grossly not okay. I also asked for her to wipe his paws after walks to help keep the apartment a bit more clean in between cleaning days and I’m sure that wasn’t done either. Overall, Oso came back in one piece but I would not book again or recommend to a close friend.

Please be honest about any and all quirks or issues your dog has. (Read my description of Mocha for sitters for an example). Especially so I can work on behaviors that you’d like improved. We always send your pup back a little more well adjusted! Inquire about private Ancestral Wisdom training sessions or request that training be added a la carte into your boarding experience. We do not do “obedience”, trick, or treat training. Your dog’s behavior will improve with its confidence, security level, and your ability to stay grounded and help them ground. We use the indigenous ways of my ancestors to help your dog enhance its various breed and personality instincts, and synergize with your lifestyle and personality. The goal is to distinguish and craft your dog’s specific “job” as an honored family member. ———— I do charge the puppy rate for most dogs under 2, unless they are exceptionally mature and well adjusted. The “standard rate” is for dogs who require standard care. If you have extra feeding instructions, exercise or potty break requests, or your pet has extreme anxiety etc, I will adjust my rates accordingly. —— We do not work for Rover; we are independent contractors! I have a Masters degree in education and have done everything from running a grass roots 80-family daycare center to teaching high school and young adults on the spectrum in New York City. In addition I have many years of world class personal and professional training and development. I started my own consulting company 7 years ago, showing people how to incorporate ancestral wisdom in their personal and professional lives. Two springs ago, life delivered a profound curve ball: Mocha had 8 massive Pitbull-Boxer-Great Dane puppies and I had to raise them myself, along with the 95lb father. It was definitely a trial by fire! I’m very proud of the incredible care and rigorous homing process I provided for these sacred shaman puppies. They all became donated service and therapy dogs for bipoc and queer families. That’s how Ancestral Wisdom for Animal Parents began! As a black indigenous queer woman I’m standing for a better living wage for the guardians of animal spirits who hold a very high place in our culture.

I work from home and make my own schedule. I’m on sabbatical from consulting, working on a writing project, so I have lots of time and attention for your animal kids. We average 3 miles a day of exploring!
