We recently had a dangerous incident occur with a Westfield-based petsitter a few weeks ago while our Italian greyhound, Luna, was staying at WestHill Just Like Home Pet Care. We wanted to share our experience here so other pet owners would be aware of what happened should they be searching for someone to care for their pet while away. We found Nancy and her business through the petsitting app, Rover, that connects pet owners with local sitters in your area. Despite experiencing numerous issues throughout Luna’s stay at WestHill that we were not happy with, we were shocked to learn that Luna was lost for hours and we were never contacted by Nancy. It was only until we messaged the host that we were on our way to pick up Luna that we were informed that she did not know where she was. We had no other messages, calls, or any other attempt to contact us. In fact, many Westfield residents may recognize this as countless people were looking for the “small grey dog” running around just before New Years Eve. The sitter told us that the incident “just happend”, but after speaking to numerous people who were helping us look for her, we learned that they were trying to catch her for hours. A few days ago, we actually had a friend approach us that they were helping look for “a missing little grey dog” who reminded him of Luna — which it was. Not only were we misled about what happened, but explicitly lied to about when it occurred. In no way is that acceptable or responsible from someone caring for and being paid to take care of someone else’s pet (or child). We were also told from people who were helping us look that this was not the first time WestHill has had missing dogs under their care. Not only was Luna physically lost under their care, but we experienced poor communication during our stay to the point where we were going to speak with the sitter when we arrived. We only received any update only after we requested it, sometimes receiving excuses or not hearing anything for over 24 hours. We simply wanted some reassurance that Luna was ok, eating, and felt safe with someone she has never stayed with before. Additionally, we were absolutely shocked when we received a photo of Nancy’s very young child walking Luna on a busy street while the adult was inside behind a screened-in window. I am familiar with Nancy's neighborhood and know many cars travel on the street and on connecting roads because I grew up in the area. Yes, Luna does well with kids. However, I would never entrust an underage child to be responsible for someone else's dog. My fiancé (who is a federal- and state-licensed attorney) and I believe that in itself (in addition to all her other misleadiings) is a clear and foreseeable disregard of her duty of care as a paid caretaker — not to mention that the entire ordeal was completely unreasonable and negligent on behalf of the pet sitter. Additionally, the photos we saw on her Facebook page made it appear that they had a fenced-in backyard, which was one of the main reasons we thought Nancy's home would be a good fit for Luna — which ultimately seems like false advertising in retrospect. We also found it very odd that all of Luna’s bedding and blankets needed to be washed before they were returned to us. We bought them brand new from TJ MAXX two days before being dropped off, and she only stayed there three nights. We are very reasonable people and understand there will always be some risk when entrusting someone to watch over a pet or child. We also understand that accidents do happen. Unfortunately in this case, this is an incident of negligence and poor judgment on behalf of WestHill. We have an ongoing case with Rover to resolve it, but wanted to voice our honest experience with this petsitter for other dog parents in the Southwick/Westfield area.

I want to thank Nancy so much for taking my two pups, Sophie and Molly on such short notice! My dogs had such a great time. I felt so reassured that they were with loving people to care for them while we were away in vacation! I would definitely recommend Nancy to all of my friends!
