Monica is the best! She has become our go-to dog sitter and our pup loves her :) We love receiving her regular picture updates.

Having a senior dog who does not do well crated or when left unsupervised with multiple other dogs, finding Monica was wonderful. Keeping Bud in a home environment with a couple of other dogs is ideal.

THE DOGE ABIDES: We got your pack!

Hi, I'm Monica and I'm an animal fanatic! I am a 34 year old full-time pet mom and a writer/translator who works from home, so I am available to care for your pets around the clock.

I do house-sitting and drop in visits, as well as boarding and daycare when I’m not housesitting. I also offer pick up and drop off services. I take on only a limited number of approved dogs in ...

What Monica would like to know about your dog

No breed preferences, but all dogs must be well-socialized. No dog-aggressive clients will be accepted for the safety of any dogs under my care. Preferably cat-friendly and livestock-friendly due to my cat and mini pig, but I can keep them contained separately if necessary, and they are very accustomed to meeting dogs of all kinds. Please let me know if your dog has any food allergies, can they eat or not eat any treats, aggression/fear issues, separation anxiety, prior history of running away or jumping fences, eating socks, counter surfing, anything I should watch out for etc. Please also let me know if your dog is not fixed, as I usually do not accept intact male dogs (unless for house sitting or drop-in visits). Tell me what your dog’s daily routine is and I’ll try my best to replicate it so they feel more at home!

About Monica's Home

When Monica watches your pet

Due to the proximity of my house to the Joshua Tree National Park, I can take your dog on hikes through the park (for those who have concerns - not on hiking trails of course! Only in dog-friendly areas*), in the early morning and late afternoon/evening when the heat is not as intense. I always bring water with me so the dogs stay hydrated on walks. Depending on the dog, I can take them to meet livestock nearby to stimulate their senses: including horses, goats, sheep, and pig. If your dog loves human attention and car rides, I can bring the dog into town where they will get lots of petting and attention. If they love playing with other dogs, we can go to the 29 Palms dog park or the Essig dog park in Yucca Valley where they can socialize and run on grass!

In between outings, your dog will have loads of fun playing in the 3 bedroom house sitting on over an acre with my puppy Sam and my dog Naboo. They will wrestle, chase each other around and enjoy a plethora of balls and toys. We do several daily training sessions which your dog will be included in, and commands will be reinforced with Zuke's treats. We are currently working on Leave It, Stay (when the gate/door is open), getting to 100% recall, Place, Speak, and Quiet. I can’t gaurantee your dog will learn everything but we will sure try!

Filtered water is always available, as well as freshly-laundered dog beds and blankets. There will be hours of belly rubbing, snuggling in the couch, and butt scratches if your dog enjoys cuddling. At 6pm we feed dinner, reinforcing any commands that your dog knows, then a walk around the neighborhood after dinner as the sun sets. Another leisurely walk before bedtime ends the day, whereupon your dog will sleep anywhere they please, be it in the dog bed, on the couch, or in the master bedroom human bed snuggling with me and my dogs (who are happy to share the space with other dogs). If you bring a towel or clothing with your scent, your dog will be able to sleep dreaming of you!

*for the curious, per Joshua Tree National Park: “While pets are allowed in the park, their activities are restricted. They must be on a leash at all times and cannot be more than 100 feet from a road, picnic area, or campground. They are prohibited from trails, and they must never be left unattended - especially in a vehicle. Desert heat can be deadly to your pet.”
